My Mother, who was no fan of automatic dishwashers, especially ones with lots of different cycles, eventually DEIGNED to wash her very expensive English Bone China (that had gold over-glaze piping) in our wonderful 1962 GE SU-70. It was the only time she'd ever use one of the three other cycle...
Well, so far, my 11 dollar thrift store Black and Decker toaster oven seems to be working well. BUT... the controls on this thing required me to print out a Quick-Guide cheat sheet to post on the wall next to it so I can figure out how to make my morning toast. Somehow, lowering one lever is no...
Are they (Breville) f**king kidding????? You have to pay 159 for a toaster oven and then you have to pay extra for the rack and the pan????
It looks like a top-notch SMALL appliance but, no thank you; I'll wait for it to come out on disk.
Which is what I'm doing.
I am, however, taking a couple of broken ones and assorted parts to a wonderful, old-fashioned repair shop in New Haven called Myer's Electric. I'm hoping maybe the owner, Spencer could cobble one together for me. I do so appreciate those continuous cleaning oven...
One of the big problems people have had with these ranges that is hard to prevent is mice.
They make nests in the insulation and, if there's a lot of tasty grease stuck to the wires, they cause a lot of shorts. You need what I need right now: a seasoned old repair guy who has the time and...
Pete, I agree. A lot of the new ones are just too big for my kitchen. I have an accessory Farberware portable oven (unbelievably good) and a vintage Roto-Broil rotisserie/broiler, but I put them away after use because they take up too much counter.
Thanks for these posts; intros to new products available to the US market are more than welcome. I'm still wishing Japan and Panasonic would start selling their products here.
When in Japan I visited a kitchen design store in Tokyo that had some impressive appliances like refrigerators designed...
Thanks to you all for the information. As it happens, I found another Black and Decker toaster oven at a thrift store for 11 dollars. We'll see how well it does. The Breville Mini looks interesting although expensive.
We had a Toastmaster chrome two-slice toaster in my childhood home that...
I've been using vintage, used GE and Black and Decker toaster ovens which I like a lot for the last couple of decades. I like the ones that have the continuous cleaning coating for their interiors--a feature that was a failure in large range ovens but works well enough in the small toaster ovens...
I still miss and want P&G's DASH detergent that was used exclusively in our homes. Because our Filter-Flo machines tended to over-sudsing, my Parents switched from FAB to DASH and stayed with it. I always like the scent of that detergent; it had notes of nutmeg and mace(spice, not weapon) and...
A good clothes washer should heat its own water too. It would be more energy efficient and would mean that the hot water cleaning the clothes would have less linear footage in which to cool down.
When I first used a European machine in 1978 it was clear to me that the US was falling behind in...
I love automatic dishwashers.
I've loved them since 1962 when I met my first dishwashers in the building where we lived.
I use my dishwasher all the time; I believe all the data that says that dishwashers (even the old ones) are more energy and water efficient, sanitary and convenient than...
