These were and still ARE my favorite version of Maytag washers. If I found one I would replace my Atlantis with this in a heart beat.

My old Kenmore from 1995, the highest time you could select was 14 minutes, but the lowest was 4 (6 on the normal cycle). Although my Atlantis is 9 minutes on the Light selection, 12-15 on Normal, and 18-21 on Heavy. I really dont know how it can be 12-15 and 18-21, why not just 18 or 12 minutes?

Whirlpool filters GE's filter flo is the best design in my opinion, but what about the Whirlpool and Kenmore design with the filter in the top of the tup that was removable?

I know what one your talking about, my Mom's old Kenmore used to have it too. Mine was white, and the cap was the same color and you could screw it off. I agree, it is an excellent agitator. Its similar to the Rotoswirl.

Agitator How does the Vari-Flex work with the control being on the top of the agitator and not on the control panel?

I have a similar setup to your washer on the inside on my Atlantis. The outer tub is indeed plastic, atleast on mine.
