Back when I was a teacher I did a unit comparing original and new versions of the same Hardy Boys book.
I have a few Hardy Boys books that cover a date range from 1927 to 1970-something. The older books are definitely better. I have found older books (and even searched out a few), and...
One thing I wonder about is what the investment was like to buy these machines. And whether in retrospect that investment was worth it. (One of the big issues I see is how they'd have counted the votes recorded on the paper roll. If it was done by another machine in the auditor's office, it...
I made my own for a science project in 4th grade after seeing a home made one in a textbook.
How times change--I can't imagine a kid of today being allowed to do anything like this for a science project. Not even a high school student, let alone a 4th grader!
These are interesting items, and I think at one time I'd have liked having one for novelty. Although I'd never use it, since I don't eat meat (and even before, I had no interest in consuming a Class 1 carcinogen).
I was interested that the people who wrote that article even tried...
I recall these--or something similar--used when I was growing up. My elementary school was used as a polling place, so I remember those machines showing up every so often for an election in the late 70s/early 80s. I'm not sure when they stopped using them--1990s sometime, I think.
I like the...
I was hoping to see at least one person say their teenage dream car was a Model T so I wouldn't feel so ancient.
The Model T might have been my dream car, but it hadn't been released yet.
My dream was to have an extra horse with the...
The only car I really really, wanted was a 2010-11 E63 AMG. 6.2L na that made 519 hp.
I do hope that car had at least enough power to get it up to speed for safe merging onto the freeway. LOL
I had at least a short period of dreaming of a Mercedes when I was a teenager. IIRC, I saw some...
crown of boringness
Oh, the Volare wasn't boring. Given the state of Chrysler then, it would have had real excitement through suspense. "Will this thing get me to KMart? Or will fall apart in a million pieces in the middle of the road, first?"
I've got a second hand coffee grinder (one of those cheap ones with a blade that spins around a cup holding coffee beans--the style one sees everywhere). I'd like to use it, but I'm wondering about if there is a way of sanitizing it without harming the coffee grinder. It is, as I say, second...
I've not had any trouble with multiple partitions and multi boot. But I'm not using Windows, and my comptuer is old--pre UEFI.
I think I'd even read a suggestion of having Windows on its own hard drive. I think one issue with Windows might be it installing its own boot loader when doing...
I use Linux Mint, dual boot either windows or Mint and rarely ever use Windows unless there is a program or two that really require it.
I've used Linux for years. It's now my primary OS.

Will have to take one's chances going it alone as am not rubbishing a perfectly good desktop just to make Mr. Bill Gates even more wealthy.
You probably won't be alone (although the specific reason for not upgrading might vary--a big reason I keep hearing in one computer user Facebook...
Unknown if/when this offer expires
I'm not any Windows expert, but I recall hearing of these updates. From what I've heard recently, the offer officially has long since expired. But it was apparently oddly still possible to do the free upgrade, and I think I've read articles talking about these...
Of course, philosophically thinking... I guess anything and everything is "authentic" something... The cafeteria goulash may not be authentic for Hungary, but it could still be authentic Minnesota Prairie school cafeteria goulash!
