    how do you make coffee?

Lots of methods Depends on where I am and the time of year. Have been doing a lot of cold brewed coffee this summer. In fact I just picked up a Ronco Coffeetime cold brewer for $20. Similar to the Toddy Maker at half the price. Other times I use a Vietnamese coffee maker. Easy to make a single...

    Gas refridgerators?

Amish use gas and kerosene fridges. Lehman's hardware in Kidron, Ohio sell lots of new ones. They also sell brand new wringer washers, a remake of the Speed Queen, imported from Saudi Arabia. See the link...

    Zucchini Anyone?

Zuchinni Stew This is when we eat lots of zuchinni stew. Saute a couple of big cloves of minced garlic, a chopped onion, and some chopped carrots. When the onions are soft, add a can of stewed tomatoes, some basil, and a peeled whole potato. One big potato or a couple of small ones. I like to...

    Synthroid vs. Armour Thyroid

Levothroid is another brand of synthetic thyroid hormone. It is made by Forest Laboratories. Most doctors prescribe Synthroid because it is the most widely advertised brand (to doctors) of thyroid hormone. My weight has been pretty stable since my levels stabilized. Just a guess, but you may...

    Synthroid vs. Armour Thyroid

I originally was on Synthroid, prescribed by my family doctor. Soon after my diagnosis I went with my Mom to her endocrinologist, and asked what he thought about Synthriod. His words "Terrible stuff, we never use it in our office." Told me to try an experiment when we got home. Take 2 glasses of...

Ironrite mangle - free for pickup!

Hi everybody. You haven't heard from me lately because I have been very busy getting my Mom's estate in order. I have her electric Ironrite in the basement. It's a Model 85, probably purchased in 1958, when they moved into this home. Mom used it constantly until permanent press sheets came out...

Wow this is new to me , Go OSTER!

Vita Mix vs Blendtec One difference between these is the material the containers are made from. Vita-Mix containers are now BPA free, being constructed of Eastman Tritan copolyester. Blendtec containers are polycarbonate, and contain BPA. Both will pulverize anything. Lisa

    cigertt smoke in cars

Our VW Westfalia was very mousey smelling when we bought it. Febreeze did nothing but give me a headache. Spraying white vinegar in the van helped some. What worked the best was using a carpet cleaners upholsery attachement and cleaning everything, seats and carpet. The headliner is vinyl, and...

    Peroxide

Friends have a vacation home that had an outhouse. A bag of lime was always kept inside of it, for the user to sprinkle in after finishing ones business. Learned the trick from one of the locals, where outhouses are still common. Kept it smelling clean, even in the hot summers. Lisa

Any truly informational and unbiased U.S. news sources?

NPR, second that motion and I have taken a liking to Radio Deutsche Welle. My local NPR station WYSU has started to air Newslink, an hour news program in place of the BBC Newshour. Online generally look for local news, as the local paper is not worth the subscription. Lisa

Lighting . Whatever happened to the proposed LED lights for the home....................

We bought solar LED xmas lights on closeout. They're blue lights. Had to replace the ultra cheap low quality AA rechargable battery that came with the unit. Put them up around the door, and out back. After a nice sunny day, they last 8 hours or more. Worth the $5 plus cost of new rechargables...

The Kitchen renovation is pretty much done!

WOW! It is just beautiful. What a wonderful kitchen. It brings back memories, my Aunt Mary had a GE kitchen of that vintage in PINK. She had the hanging fridge, the pull out freezer, dishwasher, stove and wall oven. It was such a pretty kitchen, just a nice as yours. Lisa
