Thanks for the help. I made a big mistake that may have ended this washers life. I really would have liked to have kept it going considering that it has given 30+ years of weekly use.
I painted the centerpost with Por15 rust preventative. Got it all ready to go only then ti find it leaking...
Can I replace the tub grommet on a belt drive washer without removing the tub?

Just wanted to verify that I can install the upper and lower seals on the centerpost without a tool, removal of the bearings and removal of the centerpost...

Can the inside seal in the centerpost be replaced without removing the centerpost? This is part number 28 in the link below.

Thank you for the help. I took apart the machine because it was making a squeal sound when the washer went into agitation. I believe the problem is with the brake and clutch drive unit. Also the water pump has a slight leak. I really like this machine it is well built and has been used...
The centerpost is pitted on my 1984 Kenmore Belt drive. I cleaned off the mud and caked on detergent. This is the brown in the pic. You can see the large pitting spot on the centerpost. Sorry about the poor pic quality. I'm not sure if this salvageable.

Actually it may not be the stopper/ grommet that is hanging. I think the stopper is below the edge of the drive block. Could it be hanging on some thing else?

Thank you for the quick reply. I just found out it is called as a grommet is the stopper. What is the purpose of the stopper? Here is a stock photo of one.

I have a 1984 Kenmore 80 belt drive washer. I was able to remove the spanner nut. As I push up on the basket to remove it the basket is getting hung on some thing. I'm able to move it up several inches.
I wonder if it is hanging on part number 60 in the photo below? There are two grommets...
