2 years ago bought a new FL waser and heat pump dryer, both Series 8 by Bosch. Washer is the best I have ever owned despite it only using "a teaspoon of water" etc. The dryer has however been underwhelming.
By an obscure process I gave the set to my nephew, so yesterday bought another Series 8...
Two speed?
Was this before or after the point where there were two wash actions ( normal and gentle ) but only one spin speed, just shorter for "delicates"? The early Delta's with the plastic extension to create more capacity had a two speed spin but later it was one speed.

As a guess it looks like an early Westinghouse top load diswasher but the dial has "GE"feel abouit. How this relates to Australia makes no sense however.
Need for non-language specific maufacturing
I would have thought the benefit of not having to change as many components/labelling between different markets as trade became international was the incentive for the use of symbols and minimising language
Is there a Whirlpool there?
I think washer looks like a Whirlpool ( vertical not inclined timer nob ) with Kenmore type decorations so could it have come from Inglis?

I do remember the mother of a friend from school, originally from UK, calling the dish washer the washing up machine which almost sounds Germanic in semantic construction
