    Help Identifying Mid 60's Kenmore

I almost forgot...the agitator was a gold Roto-Swirl, and the lid switch was a mercury switch, not a microswitch.

    Help Identifying Mid 60's Kenmore

Looks like a two-speed version of the 1968 Kenmore 800 three-speed machine my parents owned during my childhood. The speed control (extra-slow/auto/slow, IIRC) was where the water temperature control is on your picture, and, again IIRC, the lever you marked "seldom used" controlled the...

Were Bendix washing machines ever made in CT

“Bendix drive” was also the name for the inertia-driven automotive starter drive developed by Vincent Bendix in 1910. Ford used this type of drive up until at least 1964. Bendix-drive starters made some very distinctive sounds, including ratchet-like noises once the engine started or at least...

    Sears Dryer On Ebay

FWIW, the late-1960s "match-all" Kenmore my parents once owned had a full-width door.

    Maytag In Atlanta

The company I linked operates a "What the Font" forum, which can help you identify a typeface, as long as it is not a custom font. With respect to the timer dial, someone with an x06 model may want to scan or photograph and upload a good closeup of the timer dial, say the wash cycle portion, and...

    Maytag In Atlanta

Goudy Old Style Italic? I can't hazard a guess as to what typeface Maytag used for the timer dial, but the selector buttons appear to be Goudy Old Style Italic: http://www.myfonts.com/fonts/bitstream/goudy-old-style/bold-italic/

    Best/Worst Ever Concensus

Also, if you looked at some BD WP/KMs the wrong way, they would suds-lock. It seemed like the Super Roto-Swirl-equipped 1968 KM my parents had until around 1982 would suds-lock about 50% of the time. I don't recall any other make of machine being so prone to suds lock. And, yes, this was using...

    Pic o'Day 8/3/2006 - GM Frigidaire WC-M Commercial Washer

If this was the last commercial Jet-Action Frigidaire model, what year was it made? Also, was a window lid option available for this model? Thanks!

Heads Up North Carolina - Frigidare Washer

For the record, I used the term "Fraud-gidaire" on this forum over three years ago (see archives, post 26600). The worst Fraudgidaires, of course, were those trivialized "1-18s" that came out shortly after WCI took over Frigidaire, which looked like the real GM-made thing from a distance but...

So this is what happened to Easy?

¡Se habla español! Well, the classic Easy twin-tub learned Spanish, moved south of the border, became a Mexican citizen, and is now known as the "SD820" with the agitador curvo (curved agitator, aka Spiralator)...

    Whatever happened to coffee pods?

DIY Pods... If you are feeling resourceful, you can make your own pods using some small Mr. Coffee filters, a measuring scoop, a jar, and, of course, your choice of coffee, preferably freshly-ground from the best beans (and I don't mean *$). This link explains how...

    'GAS' Dishwasher?????

I wrote the seller... ...to let him know that, outside of "a rare 1960s model from a long-out-of-business manufacturer" (the Preway), there was no such thing as a gas dishwasher and that any water heating for a sanitary cycle or temperature boost option was supplied by the heating element in...

    $10.00 Radarange

Let eBay know...they'll shut the auction down! Not that I don't want the nuke to find a deserving home, but using someone else's picture is misrepresenting the item (copyright issues notwithstanding)...

    GE Top-loader in the house

Unless the "magnetic" lid switch uses some type of tamper-resistant technology, couldn't you get an ordinary magnet (say a magnetic parts retrieval tool) and place it over the switch to cheat the interlock?
