I recently found an early Maytag Atlantis sitting outside a hardware store. I got it for free. I put new hinge bushings in it, so the lid switch could operate properly and IT'S ALIVE!!!! What I love about this one is it is the old-style that its NOT a smart-washer. You can set your water level any way you want. I also put a new lid switch in it, just to be safe. Pictures to follow once it stops raining--it's sitting out on my back deck covered with a tarp.

Nice find! I’ve always liked these Herrin platform Maytags. I got to use one that I replaced the center gear in the transmission on a few months ago, and it was one of he best performing washers I’ve ever used.

Yeah I always feel like they got a bad rap in terms of durability. I've seen plenty of Norgetags last 15-20 years. Completely different from the Amanatags where the seals all went bad in 2 years. I feel like people unfairly lump those two completely different platforms together just because they were sold at the same time.

I'm too young to have worked on the actual old Norge branded washers, but I've heard a lot of techs say they were junk and only lasted 5-10 years. So I'm not sure if Maytag made improvements to the Norge design that extended the life, or if the old Norge machines weren't actually as bad as claimed either.
