Whirlpool buys 60% of Indesit for €758m

Interesting times, I wonder if we'll see further buyouts or mergers of the other large European appliance groups.

    Aqualits Glass just Smashed

I'd get them to replace the drum/tub too as there may be pieces of small glass caught between the inner and outer tub, potentially causing more damage to the machine and to clothes.

    Ubuntu

I find the Ubuntu user interface difficult to use. They have also caused controversy by tracking user searches on their computers.   On the other had, the Ubuntu derivative Kubuntu uses the KDE desktop which is very flexible and should be familiar to Windows Users.

    Hoover/Camdychinese or still Italian?

@optima You made my day! @elie55121 If it says Italy on the sticker then it must be from there but as dj-gabriele pointed out it doesn't mean it's any different to a Chinese produced example. I think some of the low end Candy/Hoover models for the EU market are sourced from either Russia or...

    Hoover/Camdychinese or still Italian?

I think you can tell if they are from China if they don't see "Made in Italy" or equivalent on the rating sticker.

Windows 7 was not my idea

There are some interesting comments regarding the usability of XP and 7. When Vista (and eventually Windows 7) came out, I though they broke some well established user interface paradigms, such handeling system settings and the file paths in Windows Explorer. Vista and 7 feel much more...

An opinion...probably from our UK members: Hoover 'Generation Future' washers and dishwashers....

@rolls_rapide Sorry I should have said I seen the dishwasher in Costco. They don't seem to stock any Hoover appliances now though. For a while they did a variety of Hoover appliances and much to my horror my stepdad bought a WDYN856D without consulting me first, that lasted about two days...

An opinion...probably from our UK members: Hoover 'Generation Future' washers and dishwashers....

The build quality of their Washing machines is not the best IMHO. The latest issue seems to be that the door rubber chafes against the drum on some machines, causing small bits of rubber to be deposited on clothes and the door. If you do want one, I'd go for one with a smaller capacity (8kg or...

    Washing Machine with Steam Option?

If you are after something a little bit different, you could have a look at Smeg. Our Siemens capacity was a bit too small for us (it's not with my Stepdad) and we got a WDF147S washer dryer to replace it. So far it seems great, feels as though it's built like a tank and gives great...

    New candy grando

While I'm no fan of the current range of Candy laundry appliances, I hope you get some enjoyment out of it. Thier Washing Machines are either made in Italy at their Brugherio plant or in China at thier Jiangmen plant. I don't know if you can tell the difference but I'd guess if it doesn’t say...

I think they look better than the Servis machines!

    Who makes these dishwashers?

I think some TOL Indesit/Hotpoint dishwashers are made in China too. Incidentally the Candy and Indesit compact dishwashers are also Chinese origin too.

    New Servis website

Hello, Vestel have launched a snazzy new website for Servis. They are not listing any products at the moment though. http://www.servis.co.uk/index.html

Your first (few) non-PC and PC computers

BBC Micros I have fond memories of the BBC Micro. We had them in the nursery I went to. They (and the Acorn Archimedes and RISC PCs) were pretty ubiquitous right until high school. I got an unused Acorn A4000 a couple of years ago and still sometimes get it out to play RailPro

Zerowatt brand on sale in Australia

Does anyone know if the Hoover Six styled Zerowatt machines are produced in Russia? I'm betting it will only be a matter of time before we see Chinese sourced Candy machines in Europe. BSH and Indesit already do it to an extent.

    Hi Everyone

Hello! I think there will be a lot of similar continents between your Mum's Siemens and the Balay machines. Siemens machines do tend to have slightly better quality components in them though. The low end Bosch machines you sometimes see in B&Q are also made by Balay and appear to be slightly...
