    Dryer Sheets

I'll stick with Downey, diluted with warm water. Today's load of T shirts and sweatshirts came out nice, as usual. I don't like those dryer sheets, never did, I don't care what they smell like. Just my two cents....

If you have to change your washer dryer set front load washer and topload washer modern and vintage what would you need in term of features?

And all people want, people that aren't obsessed or brainwashed by technology, is a damn washing machine that cleans their soiled laundry. Push a button, set a cycle, dump in your shitty underwear, and poof!..... you got clean laundry! No muss, no fuss, no leaning over the damn machine to read...

Are New Appliances Always Doomed? Why A Grass Roots Movement Could Change Things

I get all those annoying tv commercials that advertize joining their home appliance or automobile repair "NOW, before it breaks down!" crap. It always references that one powerful thing that's used universally in all advertizing. It's called Fear. Classic subliminal messaging used to sell...

    Vintage Appliance Advertisements: Part Thirty-one

Jeez, Eddie, that's rough living at its finest! We've all had tough times I suppose. In 1979, at 26, I got my first apartment, $180/month+electric, basic phone service. I was then working for a Delco Auto repair business, fixing car radios, as well as removing/installing them in customer's...

    Vintage Appliance Advertisements: Part Thirty-one

My first job out of high school in 1971 was a Quality Control Inspector for ITE Imperial Corp. We manufactured residential and industrial/military circuit breakers up to 2000 amps. Back then, my take-home pay was about $176.00, but living at home I was able to save enough for my first car, and...

New Speed Queen Models Coming Soon!

Well Chet, the reason I chose a bayonet style bulb is for compactness, and the positive, spring-loaded connections to the bulb. This was to eliminate any loosening of the lamp caused by vibration which could happen with a screw-in type. The magnatron, cooling fan, do have some vibration. That's...

You'd have to do what I did, Chet. Get a 2-pin bayonet socket, wire it in, and pop in a replaceable bulb. They come in 15 watt and 25 watt types. Used in older upright vacuums as a headlight.

Good post there, Dennis! Speaking about bulbs burning out, I have a 2003 Sharp Carousel microwave. I love the thing, but a couple of years ago, the light bulb inside burned out. I need to see if anything is boiling over through the tinted door window. So... upon opening it up, the 15 watt 120v...

That's cool, however my 4-level settings are fine for me. I know how much I'll need for a particular load. I'm not that concerned or picky over water levels.

    Modern Living: Part Seventeen

Indeed, some vintage things are rediculously expensive on the internet sites like ePray, and Craigs List. Some sellers think they have gold to sell. Oh, by the way, I forgot to mention that bedroom set I have also have the matching framed mirror for that dresser. Inside the dresser's top...

Cool water washes lead to bacteria in washer

And that's also why I recently modded the machine to use an optional warm rinse feature because it seems to improve the use of softener.

Dan, my A482 Maytag's already got a 4 button water level switch. Small, Medium, Large, Extra Large. And if you press down on the Extra Large button, you can add a bit more water too. (the "warm rinse" button is my recent modification)

    Modern Living: Part Seventeen

John, I can definitely agree with you there! In my master bedroom, I've got a 1960s walnut modern bedside table, a dresser, a chest of drawers, and a headboard all made by a company known for its high quality furniture. You may have heard about the brand, it's called Unagusta, and was located in...

I'd buy one of those machines if ever my faithful A482 got to the point of beyond repairing. I liked the one with the variable load size water level. (And, of course, you know I'd perform my "warm rinse" modification on it lol!!) THAT is how they should make a damned washing machine!

It CAN be found!.... in my basement laundry area! I just did a large load of whites, bed sheets, towels, etc - the machine takes about 35 minutes - to me, that's speedy enough. 😄

Pierre, you want control over your appliances, and you want them to provide service for a long time. And in a perfect world, you are entitled to that, and its called individual freedom. However, in these days, that is not left to you to decide, it's under the power of the manufacturers and...

Hi Chet, I, jokingly, must have some kind of "super brain" with depths beyond the average person. I once took an IQ test, just for amusement and curiosity of course, and got rated as 122, how accurate that is I don't know, and actually I don't care. Because people I know personally, as well as...

Cool water washes lead to bacteria in washer

When I do my laundry, since the machine has been sitting idle for a week or so, the first loads are for whites, with hot water, along with bleach. So any nasty organisms that have managed to build up in the washer's guts are taken care of. Then, I'll do the colored stuff on warm wash. So far so...
