Would you buy an handmade washing machine?

Never had a problem with the 3 prong cords on my dryers, don’t know if anyone else who had problems with the 3 prong cord on their dryers either. The only one who would know that answer is John since he’s been working on appliances for the past 53 years or so.

Would you buy an handmade washing machine?

I believe grounded plugs on washers didn’t become mandatory until the late 50’s, a few Maytags I’ve seen in the archives (Whirlpool/Kenmore as well possibly) all had grounded cords on them. Wasn’t only for safety, but to protect the machine itself. Of course, electric dryers were grounded from...

Would you buy an handmade washing machine?

Most HE top loaders are nothing more than a glorified compact machine. A friend on discord has a Black & Decker compact/portable washer with an impeller, surprisingly works well and does multiple rinses, even allows you to select the water level too. Kind of sad when a compact version of a...

    For The GE Filter-Flow Guys

Honestly, GE never seemed to ‘get it’ when it came to laundry appliances. Had flaws that they never bothered to work out or improved, never even offered gas models until it was too late meanwhile Whirlpool offered electric and gas models from the get go, Maytag introduced gas models sometime...

    12v Automobile Battery

I think one of the reasons why batteries don’t last as long is the computer and various electronics are always pulling power albeit a very small amount. After awhile, it depletes and degrades the battery. Not sure how long batteries lasted in the 60’s and 70’s, but I’m sure it was a heck of a...

Any positive comments for pre 1980 Norge/Wards dryers?

I wonder if higher temperatures do a number on the seals?

The 1938 Frigidaire Bolt-Down Automatic Washer!

I imagine that Maytag ‘wobbling ball’ spins in a continuous circle and had some sort of gear reduction or belt slippage to make it simpler. Probably washed like the Bendix PowerSurge of the era from what I can imagine.

    Resurrection of the Whirlpools

Whirlpool did away with the v-belts and pulleys in 1961, went to a design that used a polyurethane belt to drive the blower and a belt around the drum, essentially a hybrid/transition model. In 1966, the design changed to what all Whirlpool 29” dryers are using to this day though should be...

    Resurrection of the Whirlpools

Why do you always have to be so opinionated? Just posting about something I did to improve the performance and speed and so forth.

    Welcome to the club.

    Resurrection of the Whirlpools

Another thing I noticed is the tumble pattern is a bit different since items are more in front of the exhaust outlet to the right. With smaller loads, as soon as they get towards towards the air inlet, they are pushed towards towards the front area of the drum then are immediately pulled by the...

A Dutch newspaper ad with a 1957 Frigidaire Unimatic in it

Oh, it looks like brisnat81 decided to laugh at my post for no apparent reason. Go ahead and complain, but can clearly see who likes and or reacts to posts. Can’t hide anymore on this new site.

    Resurrection of the Whirlpools

It moves around 200 cfm, but with the suction of the main blower/fan, it makes it spin a bit faster which forces more air in. Definitely can tell it’s a bit faster since the thermostats open and close fairly quickly since the fan brings in cooler air sooner dropping the temp inside the drum...

    Resurrection of the Whirlpools

Still have to run a couple more loads through (large load of towels will definitely be official test for sure) but so far seems to have reduced drying time a good 5 to 10 minutes so far.

    Resurrection of the Whirlpools

I must say, HOLY CRAP! It’s fast! It dries a hell of a lot more quickly, the temperature of the glass porthole window on the door is about equal to the exhaust outlet temperature (at least judging by the temperature on the lint screen lid), the incoming air is definitely making it way to the...

A Dutch newspaper ad with a 1957 Frigidaire Unimatic in it

The North American electrical system and grid is a lot more flexible, can have 120v in your home and have 240v at your disposal when extra power is needed. Certainly a lot safer since higher voltages carry more current which is no good in regards to safety and so forth. Oh, most homes in...

    Resurrection of the Whirlpools

One of the latest things I’ve done, added a fan to turbo-charge the dryer to help push air through the heating element and into the drum, should also help the cool-down right before it shuts off. Surprisingly, wasn’t as loud as you’d think since I rigged it up earlier this summer, but was...

    Re: Thinning the heard

If anyone is wondering, selling the Maytag 606 set for $300. Hope to sell them sometime by spring since I am going to probably be moving cross country within the next couple of years.

    Re: Thinning the heard

Hope to pass them onto another collector who’ll appreciate them sometime in the near future.

Are New Appliances Always Doomed? Why A Grass Roots Movement Could Change Things

Still using my 1979 Maytag 806 with it’s 12 pound capacity, plenty large for me. Anything larger would simply be redundant since I pretty much separate everything, wouldn’t even use the entire capacity of the machine.
