It was on the shop's main computer, not mine, nor did I gold-plate it and stick it on the fireplace mantle.

Matt, good advice. Let me be the one to apologize for William's behavior. And for not giving your posts as many likes as I should have over the past month. (In general I am shy of liking posts regardless of quality or who made them simply because I don't like anything being a popularity contest. I am still in recovery over my social media addiction lol)


Trust me, I've had my fair share of detractors. Sometimes it is best to just step away and ignore what follows. They are looking for engagement and continuing any back and forth is a sign of consent to them.

Remember Matt, you will always have people who appreciate you and value your experience. I am one of them.

Thanks for explaining how the internet works to someone that worked in the field for over 25 years. I never knew you could just type an address in the bar...or click on link. This will save me a lot of time in the future.

Not being condescending to anyone here, this forum has some fikle members. Has for decades. Many know their trades and their experiences are valuable.
Many have met in person over the years at wash ins and ground reunions. Some have no face to their name and no one has ever met them. Others knew other members in young adulthood before this site was around.

The thing is in the grand scheme of things it is irrelevant. Old appliances did well with EM timers and I think its time we go back to what worked.

In an ideal world 8 single pole timer contacts would control a whole washing machine.

For those who want sources behind my ambitious claims- here is a real world example where 4 single pole single throw and 4 single pole double throw timer contacts control an entire washing machine without any electronics. No error codes to pop up, no soldier tracks, small relays or undersized Molex connectors that can fail.

Only thing I would add is a dual action agitator. Machines like this need to be put back in production. You not only get your money's worth with an economized yet durable design built on a mass scale giving 15+ years of longevity but clothes are also washed and rinsed to perfection in under 30 minutes. There is still demand and preference for this concept.

We just need to get more people to realize that in the long term people save money with a machine such as this.

Way less that can go wrong. Simplicity is one of the major keys to longevity, reliability and dependability as well as serviceability and universal parts availability.

A direct drive with a DA can wash more clothes than a top load Speed Queen. It is better to run smaller 16 pound loads than larger loads. Colors, linting, wash time, temperatures, ect all force smaller loads around

Uses too much water.

Nothing a spray rinse system and DA agitator can't solve.

Yes I know this is a 24 inch washer, however a 27 inch BOL/MOL Whirlpool washer isn't much different.

The new manager wanted me to quit using the water so I told him I got it because the laundry which had two washers were rarely available and one smelled like gasoline. I was moving in a couple of months anyway. I sold the year old set for 75% of the new price.

They make 27 inch direct drives with a dual action agitator which can hold a lot more.

I only linked the 24 inch model because I had the tech sheet on hand as an example of how simple a control system could get for a 4 cycle washer.

The exact same motor, wire harness and timer could be transplanted to a 27 inch model and it would still work satisfactorily.

All direct-drives were 24" width until circa 1986 at introduction of the 27" revision when classic belt-drives were discontinued. Granny had a 1984 LA7400XM. It easily handled larger loads than what you describe. I used it from 1985 to 1991 when I lived in an apartment that had no laundry facilities. Her laundry and mine mixed together for full loads.

My Kenmore 24" portable DD has the dual-action agitator, and I've always been able to load it up with a decent amount of articles without any problems.
I like the fact that it was made with a "warm rinse" option too.
However, it sits and waits, tucked away in the laundry room, waiting, waiting, in case the Maytag ever breaks down..... which I believe won't be anytime soon.

Still using my 1979 Maytag 806 with its 12 pound capacity, plenty large for me. Anything larger would simply be redundant since I pretty much separate everything, wouldn’t even use the entire capacity of the machine.
