    Westinghouse cleaning dryer haul

The 2 Maytag HOH’s and early 60’s Whirlpool dryer I have didn’t have a single cent in them. The one piece drum of some models doesn’t allow them to eat change very easily, if at all. You’ll known when a Maytag HOH (at least the electric versions) since it’ll pop the breaker when coins and...

    Hi I'm Lincoln!

let’s not forget about the Maytag Halo Of Heat with it’s precision electronic dry control with the bell the sounds when it’s done.

    Hi I'm Lincoln!

“You’ll have to find a Maytag wringer washer in the future, those are a ball to play with” Oh, definitely. For sure will wash the heck out of anything you put in ‘em.

    Hi I'm Lincoln!

Here’s my Maytag 806’s, not quite the machines I grew up with but the washer still makes the same sounds as the one I grew up with. Even have the dual action load sensor I put in from time to time.

    Hi I'm Lincoln!

I was a little too young at the time (was 7 years old in 2006), offered to help but my mother was quite particular about certain things. Wasn’t until I was 10 or 11 when I started doing my own laundry. A little bit late in life, but as the saying goes: “Better late than never”.

An Interesting Lesson About Replacing Motors

Speaking of motors, had the motor act up on my Whirlpool since it was sitting on the start winding and was cutting out. Thought it was a timer issue, but quickly realized it was the motor since it came back on but was making a funny hot smell, decided to pull the plug and swap a different motor in.

    Re: Thinning the heard

One experiment I did to my Maytag franken dryer (essentially a Maytag 407, just the console light wired in place of the neon pilot light) is put in a L180-40 thermostat for the high limit. The heating element would stay on for a good 10 minutes or so before the main cycling thermostat would open...

    Re: Thinning the heard

Double throw switch cycling thermostat. This originally started out life as a DG606, then was converted to a 306 since the electronic dry control wasn’t working and had corroded wires from years of the constant burning pilot light being left on. Scored a NOS 407 auto dry timer and decided to put...

    Re: Thinning the heard

Earlier this spring, I created a thread on thinning the heard. Since the site got sold off and has a completely, can’t find the thread I created originally. Anyways, I mentioned I would be selling of my Maytag A810 set (probably just going to give them away since they have been sitting out in...

    Hi I'm Lincoln!

Welcome to the club Lincoln. My interest in automatic washers all began with the 1997 Maytag Dependable Care washer I grew up with in the early 2000’s before moving in 2006. Despite my Maytag A806 being 18 years older, still makes the same distinct sound when it enters the spin drain as did the...

Pink 1957 Frigidaire Control Tower Set in the St. Louis Metropolitan Area...

I honestly can’t justify throwing something away that can provide many years of trouble free service, as long as parts can be found or made, might as well keep things for running as long as possible. Of course, there will be those who will make remarks but honestly, who the hell cares. If...

    Double-Duty Super-Surgilator – 16mm Film

I honestly prefer the Super Surgilator and DDSS over the Kenmore agitators. The Super Surgilator seems to work quite well, washed a pillowcase that appeared to be cleaned but when I went to move the sheets over to the dryer, was amazed on how clean it came out. The standard Bakelite Surgilator...

    Samsung 240 volt Vented Combo!

Some people can hem and haw all the want on how newer machines have more flexibility etc, but there’s not much flexibility, if any at all. Usually you’ll be locked out of certain options, and when you select ‘hot’, it’s usually warm which is not true hot water. If I select hot or warm water...

    Whirlpool Washer Rant!

Jerome keeps on going on the same damn thing over and over to the point it’s beginning to piss me off. I thought I was bad when I joined the site over 8 years ago..

    Samsung 240 volt Vented Combo!

Reliability may be questionable with newer Samsung units, but definitely quicker drying times. Heat pump may be more efficient, but will need a tear down to keep the evaporator coil clean. Though a good majority of us here in the club are mechanically savvy, heat pump dryers are a royal pain...

    Double-Duty Super-Surgilator – 16mm Film

They claimed to use the ‘normal’ cycle, but I’m willing to bet they used the Super Wash cycle but didn’t show the console options since that’s apart of the marketing. They did show it in another clip in the other video, but probably selected the Super Wash cycle when the camera was off, again...

    Samsung 240 volt Vented Combo!

Vented is the way to go if you want reliability and quick drying times.

    Double-Duty Super-Surgilator – 16mm Film

I’d say 1978 since the Imperial Mark 18 was superseded by the Mark II in 1978.

Maytag Machines After Whirlpool Buyout - What Remained?

You couldn’t make the belt drives spin any faster without essentially having to belt them down to a concrete floor. The hanging suspension is 1940’s technology and was only meant for speeds of 505 to 525 rpm, no faster than that. Because of the slower spin speeds, Whirlpool engineered the...
