    Vintage Appliance Advertisements: Part Thirty-one

Peter Pan was a show I always looked forward to when I was little. I think I was 4 the first time I saw it.

    Vintage Appliance Advertisements: Part Thirty-one

I remember seeing AMC (Associated Merchandising Corp.) appliances at Shillito's downtown store. They also sold GE at the time, and even as a kid I thought the AMC models looked cheap in comparison.

    I'm so in love..

It's from between 1959 and 1963. Anything earlier had a round clock, and after had a grounded receptacle on backsplash. The model and serial number will tell the details.

    Frigidaire/Holden stove/oven in Victoria

It looks narrow, like it's a 24" wide unit. I don't remember it being in the catalog when I worked at a Frigidaire dealer in the late 1970s. It must have been discontinued in the US by then.

    Modern Living: Part Seventeen

When I worked at a paint and wallcovering store around 1990, we sold Hunter Douglas Flexalum blinds. We also sold a couple other brands, but these were the best. Most people ordered the 1" mini blinds, but we also had 1.5" and 2" wide versions.

    NORGE 20lb SET

I very rarely ate any paste. From what I can find out, white school paste was usually make from wheat flour or cornstarch, sugar, water, and possibly alum and clove or mint oil. Nothing that would make anyone seriously I'll.

    NORGE 20lb SET

That's what we thought, too, and the janitor was none too pleased. However, we did go out to the playground for an unplanned recess.

    NORGE 20lb SET

My friend and classmate in elementary school, Mary Jo W., would eat her paste. In second grade we usually did art things in the afternoon, however one day were doing such right before lunch. She, Mrs. Morton (teacher), and the entire class regretted her appetizer of paste before her lunch of...

Here's one you don't see much of anymore

Sunday afternoon I went to a car show at my sister's church. They had about 60 cars on display, mainly from the 50s to 70s, but a few as old 1927, and new as 2000. Saw a really nice 68 Chevrolet Malibu, a 66 El Camino, and a 57 Bel Air. Also saw a 56 Chevrolet Townsman station wagon, but it was...

    Vintage Appliance Advertisements: Part Thirty-one

I've never had a Stromberg Carlson radio, but the elementary school I went to had a PA system by them. Their telephone division became Comdial, which is now Cortelco.

    Kmart Grand Opening in 1975

I don't remember cabinets and countertops in any K-Mart I was ever in. The appliances in the ones around here were GE if I remember correctly - don't think I ever saw Frigidaire there. My parents bought a Kodak slide projector at one of the first of their stores in the Cincinnati area sometime...

    Window Air Conditioner Advice/Suggestions

Yes, I certainly agree an attic is an undesirable place for HVAC equipment. In addition to the insulation getting wet, the air handler and flex duct got contaminated with mold, necessitating its removal.

    Window Air Conditioner Advice/Suggestions

I absolutely hate blown in insulation. My house had the cellulose kind, and the attic looked like there had been a blizzard of gray snow. After a problem with the air conditioner drain, I had to use a coal shovel and scoop up an area at least 10'x12' - not fun on a hot day. I had a company...

If I ever make it back to that part of Virginia, I want to go there. The last time I was in Winchester was August 2000. Glad you were able to go for the dedication.

My now deceased neighbor Dan had one just like that, but gasoline engine. He had bought it used, and his wife sold it soon after he passed. My buddy Jerry had a '95 in black.

    car feature subscriptions...

Eddie, your Buick would have been similar to my first car, a 1967 Pontiac Tempest. My mom bought it new, and I got it when my dad bought her a new 1973 Buick Electra Limited. It was a basic but decent car, and I kept it until I got until I got a 1967 Oldsmobile Delmont 88 around 1976, which I...

Hey Pete, sorry to hear you're leaving the area, but wish the best to you and Doug in your new home.

    A Maytag wringer anomaly?

Matt, when I worked at a hardware store that was a Maytag dealer in 1977, we sold several wringer washers. I think Maytag made them into the early 1980s. People in rural areas liked them for various reasons. Some farm houses didn't have sufficient water pressure for automatic machines, and the...
