    Vintage amplifier wattages

I have found lots of cases of bad capacitors in older solid state amps, especially in devices such as jukeboxes. I would replace all the large electrolytics in the power supply/output stages on the Magnavox solid state; typically the bass response really deteriorates when these caps start going...

    Old Movie Theatres

In many of the small towns in New Mexico the old downtown theatres are still operating. They are mostly not restored but have just kept plugging along all of these years. Artesia, Lovington, and Santa Rosa are among some of the towns with the old theatres. If you ever drive through this area a...

    I gave in!

This may sound strange but I need the heating to be about 78-80 degrees or else I start to feel cold! I have never skimped on heating as I would feel miserable at 60 degrees. Even if I have a sweater and long pants on my ears and nose would be uncomfortably cold.

    Energy wasters

As far as I know, the compact fluorescents use a rectifier and then a solid state inverter type oscillator to power the tube at a higher frequency so there shouldn't be 60/50 hz flicker like in a traditional ballast type fluorescent lamp. I use only compact fluorescents except in the few lamps...

    Favorite Kitty Litter

I use a litter box called the "Booda Dome" The cat has to walk up a few stairs and enter a dome-like area to use the litterbox. Seems to control odor well. I use Scoop Away cat litter. Have 1 male black cat, a calico female and a tortoiseshell female.

    Anyone remember Seal-A-Meal?

Richard Simmons I think that was "Deal-a-meal" I remember the infomercial, early 90's...used a deck of cards to plan out what foods to eat.

    Picture Thread!!!

RCA Tv The TV is an RCA b/w from around 1963...The record player/radio works but there is something wrong with the video circuit to the CRT or the CRT itself. Have high voltage but no image. I'll have to take some more pictures inside!

    I just saved about $3000

I do not recommend floppies at all. I have some that are about 20 yrs old and it is very difficult to read the data from them...even ones about 10 yrs old seem to show signs of disintegration.

    $250 Fine for Smoking

The issue with Marriott does not appear to be a law at all, it is a policy set up by a company as part of the terms of doing business with them, nothing more. Here in Midland and Odessa, TX. the law states that restaurants, bars, etc. must either: Allow smoking anywhere in the establishment or...

Got an early 1950's Hotpoint double oven range

I took some more pictures but still need to download from the camera. Each oven is the same width but the one on the right is somewhat taller inside from bottom to top. The width is just right for sliding in a cookie sheet. Have really enjoyed being able to bake for instance a pie at 400 degrees...

Ok I love my vintage Zenith TV but....

I have a Heathkit GR-295 tube type color TV which works pretty well although it could use some work to the vertical circuits and a new CRT or CRT repair as the bonding material between the safety glass and CRT has gone cloudy. The chassis hinges outward for service; looks very easy to work on.

Got an early 1950's Hotpoint double oven range

I decided to try out my $5.00 university surplus Kodak digital camera and take some pictures but the memory card will not fit the card reader, must be some old type of card. Will have to try another camera tonight.

Ok I love my vintage Zenith TV but....

Zenith never used PC boards on tube type radios or TV's (to my knowledge)...that old large 1954 color set would have been a RCA CT-100. The Early Television museum in Columbus has some working examples. http://www.earlytelevision.org

Got an early 1950's Hotpoint double oven range

I got the range installed into the kitchen this morning. When I bought my house it came with a really bad shape 1980's Kenmore usual size (30"?) range. The kitchen had orginially been designed to take the larger double oven range so a little piece of counter was pactched in to fill the space. I...

How many songs on your ipod, and what are the first five it plays on shuffle?

I have a 'retro' equivalent of an ipod-type device. I use a dumpster-salvaged 1996 Gateway 2000 computer with sound card connected to my Broadcast Electronics mixing board and PA amplifier with a 70-volt distribution system for driving speakers through the house. The Gateway is running Linux...

Ok I love my vintage Zenith TV but....

I would say this is a later model than '63. A '63 would most likely have VHF tuner only; UHF tuners were required by law in '64. This set probably does have an automatic degaussing coil. Even on the sets that lack one, re-degaussing is usually not needed unless the set is moved (earth's magnetic...
