    Vintage photos of wringer washers

GE Wringer Washer photo... That plant was in Bridgeport, Connecticut. By the mid-1950's GE has moved its major appliance manufacturing to their present location in Louisville, Kentucky.

As I have opined before, I think the SQ agitator is a bit more of a cross between the Surgilator, and the Maytag Power-Fin agitators. But, there's no doubt on the rollover; although on some loads, the indexing action of the tub gives it a bit more of an Easy Spiralator-like action.

I have to say, that the ABC/Kevinator agitators that had the red rubber "edges" on the blades, remind me of all things, GODZILLA!

Those machines pictured, look exactly like the Kelvinator machines of the same vintage. Even the trademark logo on the upper right-hand side of the cabinets appears to be the same as the "Kelvy's."

From the time I was a little kid, to about nine years old, my grandmother had the exact same Blackstone as featured in the POD. As I remember, (like Hotpoint machines of the era) it had to be manually filled, by setting the dial to "Fill." (my grandmother added a "witch's brew" of detergent...

Not long ago, when the POD featured a '57 GE FF, I posted that an aunt of mine had one at the time I was a little kid, living with my family in an apartment complex, and she'd occasionally invite my mom over to do our laundry. I had another aunt, who did the same thing; except she had the Westy...

My mom's forst washing machine was a 1960 Hotpoint "Touch Command" TOL model (with matching dryer, of course). It seemed to do a decent enough job. It would creep me out when it went off-balance; on one occasion it started "walking" and scared the S*** out of me, but good! But, it was...

    Top Load or Front Load....?

I'm going to hedge on this one, and say it's more a matter of opinion based on experience. In 2000, I bought an Asko pair. Despite their smaller capacity (a full-sized quilt just barely fit into the tumbler), this washing machine was by far, the best, bar none, I ever had. However, it became too...

    I was at Lowe's today-disappointing washers!

I'll tell you what...if I remember correctly, 20 or so years ago, if everybody took that much stock in what CONSUMER REPORTS said about them, we'd all be raving about Sears Kenmore washers, like many of us do nowadays about Speed Queen. OK, that was then, and this is now, and CU doesn't think...

When I was little, my family lived in an apartment complex, so we didn't have our own washing machine and dryer. Occasionally, two of my aunt's would invite my mom over to do laundry in their machines; one of them had the same GE Filter-Flo washer pictured...in yellow. First time I ever saw ANY...

I don't think this kind of agitator reached its full potential until direct-drive was incorporated into SK/WP machines. Personally, I never cared for them. I felt it was more "gimmick" than "innovation." Still, they made just about every body else stand up and take notice, and IMHO, this was...

    Which washer would last?

I had an older version of that same Maytag-with the original-style Power-Fin agitator, and Helical Drive. When I had to give up the my apartment, I gave it to my grandmother when she moved into a condo. Mine served me well.

Why Maytag Automatic Washers Clean Clothes So Well...

My mom had a Maytag 606 for 20 years. My grandmother had one as well; bought it while I was still in college, and sold it 21 years later as part of her old house. I don't quite understand the mindset of "boring" versus "exciting" agitation. Whether it oscillates; pulsates; vibrates; rotates...

Big vs Small: Newer GE TL Wash Performance

But, WOW! The way the tubs index on these machines...is the agitator moving the tub, or vice versa? Thanks; but I'll take my SQ over these any day!

For the record... While there's too little to identify from the machines pictured in the upper left, right; and lower left corners, I see Thor, GE, Whirlpool, Westinghouse, Bendix, Norge, Apex and Hotpoint in there. It'd make more sense for ALL to be gifted with eh Bendix and Westinghouse...

A a little kid, my mom's first washing machine was a 1960 Hotpoint "Touch Command" model, with the "gooseneck" agitator. It also HAD a pan that fit over the agitator, as a detergent dispenser, and two-piece " coffee strainer" lint filter that also fit over the lower part of the agitator (it was...

    Sylvania washers??

That Sylvania TV pictured, reminds me of the ones that used to be awarded as the "grand prize" on the original "BEAT THE CLOCK" back in the 1950's, except those were console models.

if they remade the fridgedair 1-18 washer dryer models how would you see a 2017 fridgedair 1-18?

While I don't know what GM sold Frigidaire in the first place, my guess was that it didn't adhere to the corporate bottom line. That said, I don't think it really wouldn't have mattered who they sold the division to; the pulsating agitator mechanism would've probably been scrapped, anyway...

If Maytag marketed their blue cheese, the way they did their washers and dryers, might they have come up with the following...? "HIGHLANDER"-High quality blue cheese at a competitive price... "606"- Maytag's most popular variety of blue cheese... (New!) "HALO OF HEAT"- a different kind of...
