    new GE top load

Consumer Reports I've noticed Consumer Reports tends to always favor foreign manufacturers in everything from cars to appliances. And they don't pay attention to anything before they publish it. I've seen so many mistakes about features on washers its not even funny. They'll say it doesn't...

Got my first vintage home item..........

I know it would benefit from a good tune up-- I just haven't taken the time to fool with it as I rarely need it. Several years ago the repairman wanted to buy it from me but I wouldn't sell it. I have many memories of my grandmother sitting at that machine sewing. She paid $200 for it in the...

Got my first vintage home item..........

I think most people call those disks "Cams" and each one will make a different stitch. I have my grandmothers Singer Slant O Matic 500 that she bought in 1963/64. It also makes many different stitches by just adjusting the two knobs on the front of the machine. Mine needs some adjustments as...

    Older TOL WP DD washer

My Aunt had that exact same washer. She bought it in 1988. She died in 2010 and we gave it to her housekeeper. She is still using it today. My aunt did not use it a lot in the last 10 yrs as she was not home but about 3 months out of the year, but they are great machines.

    Real Maytags???

Hi guys. These machines seem to be a steal if they really work. I was wondering if they are "Real Maytags: made in Newton before Maytag started turning out junk machines. http://huntsville.craigslist.org/app/3755113763.html

Late 1980's Kitchen Aid All Pushbutton Washer and Dryer Set...

I love those blue agitators. My mother's 1991 KA Washer had the blue agitator. My KA made in 2002 has the white one. I wish they had kept the Blue one just to have something different.

Minty Maytag DC set in Minneapolis

I bought those same machines in 1996 and I could kick myself for getting rid of them. I thought I had to have a front loader. I hope I can find some in good shape someday, but a lot of stuff that turns up here on craigslist is trashed

Suds draining in spin cycle and overflowing drain pipe

Yes that does seem odd for sure that it would drain the tub of clean water fine. You're right, doesn't sound like plumbing. I can't figure this one out

Suds draining in spin cycle and overflowing drain pipe

It sounds like a plumbing issue to me. I had a problem with water backing up the standpipe but I did have a clog somewhere in the line. My plumber "snaked" out the drain quite a long way and that took care of the problem. It never hurts to clean out a washer drain line anytime. So much lint...

HELP with New Transmission in KA Direct Drive Washer

It's working fine now It just did that clicky thing one time. It sure doesn not clunk and sound like it hitting something like the old one. I was just glad I could actually do it. I did put a slight dent in the porcelain tub by dropping the socket wrench-- just my luck. And after 2 or 3...

    Speed Queen/Alliance Job Fair

I think if Speed Queen advertized in the right market, they could sell tons of their top loader traditional machines. As far as I can tell, they are the only company left that makes them. I never knew much about them until I researched them online and read more about them on this site...

HELP with New Transmission in KA Direct Drive Washer

Got it finished I thought a new gearcase would make this washer a bit quieter, but I swear after a few loads it might be slightly less noisy. It did some kind of clicking like it wasn't going to spin but then took off. Time to call George the Repairman and let him take care of it. Much less...

HELP with New Transmission in KA Direct Drive Washer

Thanks I took the old gearcase out and put the new one in-- I could get the agitator to barely move with a lot of force-- maybe the new transmission has to be run to loosen it up. I just don't want to tear anything up. I didn't think to see if I could turn the shaft on the transmission...

HELP with New Transmission in KA Direct Drive Washer

I just finished installing the new transmission in the KA washer. However, I cannot get the agitator to turn with my hand-- Its almost like it frozen. Is this normal? I'm afraid to hook the machine back up as I'm afraid I'll break something. I'll keep researching and see if I can find some...

    New or Refurbished Transmission (Gearcase)

Ordered a New One Thank-you for your advice. I always try to buy from local small dealers, but the one here was so much more expensive. They wanted $242 for a new transmission but I found one from an online dealer for $132. Both are OEM FSP Parts.
