POE 5-8-19 Coupon for Tide in Kelvinator Washer

They were unfortunately built sort of like a beer can and were about that stable too. I have seen more than one that would walk to the end of the fill hoses whenever it spun. The tub was a huge one, but the wash action wasn't great. The Frigidaire washers at the time would hold as much or...

    PHILCO!!

We had a chain of stores called Otasco that carried Philco, Leonard (rebadged Kelvinator) and Tempmaster (rebadged Norge) machines in the 60's. They were all fascinating machines to use and watch. Many of the Leonard machines had glass lids to show off the action and the other's would allow the...

Speed Queen ad for today 4/12/2019

I remember in the 60's and 70's most of the laundries I saw were equipped with Speed Queen machines. I was always amazed that those machines could literally run 24/7 non stop for years with no problems and many of them did.

Speed Queen ad for today 4/12/2019

What would be the approximate year of this machine? Back in the 50's & 60's they certainly made some heavy duty machines.

Can Kitchenaid Hobart compete with modern Dishwashers (Bosch, etc)?

Opinions certainly seem to vary don't they. However, I have had more than one Kitchen aid dishwasher and most of the new dishwashers put the old ones to shame, anemic spraying or not. Of course they take about 4 times as long as the old machines too.

Can Kitchenaid Hobart compete with modern Dishwashers (Bosch, etc)?

hobart kitchenaid vs new dishwashers Anything build from the 50's and/or 60's is heavier built for the most part. However, the cleaning ability with the cycles provided are a totally different story. New dishwashers, with few exceptions, clean things up quite well and far surpass the old...

    POD 4/8/2019

The sad thing about it, is that if speed queen had kept the solenoids that operated the wash and spin in the commercial machines that they kept until 1979 instead of changing to a reversing motor for home units they could have remained one of the best heavy duty machines ever made. I think that...

    POD 4/8/2019

This was the last hurrah for the solid tub speed queen washers. The next models that were made after this had the perforated tubs.

    POD 4/5/19 Easy ACM Automatic

It did the same thing that speed queen, GE and multiple others did and spun at a much slower speed and/or hit the outside tub if it was grossly unbalanced.

Does anyone have or has anyone ever seen a machine like this one? It seems an odd bird indeed.

Which washers and dryers are the easiest to work on?

The easiest ones are the ones you have a service contract on and can call someone else to fix! LOL

Picture of the day March 22, 2019

I did have 5 of the washers and 2 of the dryers like those back in about 1976 when they were new. Used them commercially and one set at home. They weren't very good for holding up in service. The washers and the dryers had various problems and didn't last more than a couple of years or so...

if you had to buy a vintage washer dryer set today what would be your dream set

I'll take either a Kelvinator "Do all Dial" set or a 1958 super deluxe Norge set. Either set is incredible and so long as we're dreamin'....

    Flow Washers

I have actually taken apart valves and inserted a penny with a small hole drilled in the center of it and that made the water level perfect.

    Heating water Hell

I had one of the Kitchenaid machines of that vintage and HATED it. It not only did not clean worth a crap and left particles all over the top rack, it stopped continuously to heat the water over and over. Took about 4 or 5 hours to do a load. I kept it less than a year and NEVER bought...

That is definitely a Whirlpool/Kenmore made machine.

    POD 1/11/2019

These washers held the largest load of ANY top loader ever made and did the best job of washing the clothes and extracting the water too. If they had just been a little more durable as far as the water seals, they would have been even more terrific. The dryers had roller and air movement...

in 2019 what would be your dream vintage washer dryer set to own and use?

There are sooooooooo many fabulous old sets that were not only fun, but entertaining to use! Any of the old Kelvinator or ABC o matic sets definitely fall into this category. Apex and Frigidaire also.

POD 12-31-18 WH fl ad with Pearl Bailey

Ole Pearly probably never had one. By this time the construction and workmanship was lousy. I have seen one of these literally jump out of the snubber plates used for balance and smooth spinning. The only good thing I can say about them is that they produced very lint free laundry as would any...

    Found a 1974 Ward's Signature Washer/Dryer set in Avocado!

Yep, these washers really beat the heck out of the clothes. Things did come out clean and they spun the water out better than most too. They were noisy though and did a lot of clanging when spinning. The dryers were real linters as far as linting up the room they were in. Instead of like...
