    Steampunk!

Steampunk is nifty... But I prefer Cyberpunk. I type on an unmodified model M (actually an MII with the integral trackball -a rare bird indeed!) Sadly the more interesting keyboards out there are seldom for the IBM compatibles most of us hammer away at -they're all for terminals of one stripe...

    Here Is Mine. What's Yours?

Gin... Smells and tastes exactly like Aftershave. Then again they say to each his own. I love a good Whisky Sour. (my boss gifted me with two bottles of Canadian Club older than I am for helping him move -and daaaaammmnn the stuff is smooth!)

    Your favorite quotes~

The Bene Gesserit Litany against Fear: I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the...

"Money isn't the key to happiness. But if you have enough money, you can get a key made." "An Idealist is someone who, upon noticing that a rose smells better than a cabbage, concludes that it will also make a better soup." "Memory is like an orgasm. It's a lot better if you don't have to fake...

    Most useless appliance addition?

Vacuum massagers... and I suppose "messagers" too I've never heard of a vacuum that could take messages? Did it answer the door, or just the phone? :) Anyway, seriously; the massager that's with my Kirby, at least, is a large pad that fits the sander attachment and would be rotten for any sort...

    Most useless appliance addition?

AH, Vacuum bits... As vacuums are my specialty, I have a few of the oddball ones. Kirby's oddball bits are actually better than most, their drills/grinders/whatever ran via a drive belt off the main shaft; the drill was the flexible shaft kind and these are very useful to the craftsman indeed...

    Vintage hair dryers and telephones

Vintage Dryers... The black dryer... my dad had one for years. Don't bother with it, it's strictly a collector's piece only, it's about a 250 watt dryer, doesn't hardly do anything. There was a Schick version of it that came in a nice velvet-lined case with a whole bunch of tools for it, (the...

Quick Way To Get 220 Volts?

Voltage weirdness... Who here knows that in this country in some places the electric wiring was DC??? I have a handyman's book from the 60s that discusses the problems of flourescent lamps on DC. Anyway this device is just a little suspiscious. Sure it should work in theory, but it also has...

    R.I.P. Swing-A-Way

Chinese Crap... I bought a huge pair of Chinese-made ripoff vice-grip pliers (I actually like the ripoff types better because of they way they open versus real vice grips) for like $6 at a discount store, a few years later the metal had warped and they wouldn't grip tight anymore but rather...

    My Sunday Salute to Corningware

My mother got a big set of "Country Festival" Corningware as a wedding gift. I learned the name this year and until then called it "Rollerskating Chickens" -it's rather appropriate when you think of it, honestly. 2 months or so ago the entire set showed up in a local thrift shop -tumblers...

    Brett Somers dies at 83

Oh No... Match Game was the greatest... the world will not be the same without her. I once heard her and CNR described as "Queen and Queen of Match Game". No other show has ever captured that magic, and a large portion of it was her, in my oppinion.

Thought you guys might like to see my Waring Nova I do its thing...

The glass is most definitely vintage, how old I have no idea; it belonged to the other grandmother! I have a large set of them. I was feeling lazy that night with the smoothy, it's just the V8 stuff and some ice cubes. Tasted great. My mom has a nice Oster that's all metal. When I get a chance...

Thought you guys might like to see my Waring Nova I do its thing...

This Waring Nova I in a ...love..ly(?) shade of avocado used to belong to my grandmother. Here it is doing what it does best (and still very well after all these years!)

    Coffee Filters

Paper should be fine... Before she got a paper shredder, my mother used the disposer as one. Any important papers that had to be discarded got put down the disposer (with water of course!). It never harmed it at all, even though she bought cheap-o "Master Mechanic" disposers. Fortunately she...

    FINALLY .............. NEW PORCH !!!

Looks Great! I remember seeing it being done when my girlfriend and I came to get the Coldspot (which now has a new motor and, outside some squeaky operation of the blower, works great, and will be completely restored over the winter -rust stripped, re-painted, etc.). It looks great!

Take Hope, Vintage Appliance fans, and Sieze the Day!

Piddling Air Con fixed! I've pretty sure I've got the "Air Conditioner pees on the window sill" problem licked. First of all a quick check with a spirit level reveals that the unit was canted into the room and not out. A little muscling the unit around in the window fixed this. Second the weep...

Tappan Electronic Oven--Any Information on It?

Blackstone, don't sweat the power consumption. You only use the microwave for a few minutes a day (half an hour at most if you prepare a large, complex dinner with it), and most modern ovens, unless you buy a very small model, range from .9 to 1.6 KW anyway. It's not like it's a 'fridge that...

Take Hope, Vintage Appliance fans, and Sieze the Day!

That unit is a floor console model for permanent install That is a very old form factor of Air Conditioner. I have seen adds for them from the 1920s, I think. I'm not sure if they were heat pumps, or had very large capacities, or what, but the advert had it being purchased by a fat, sweaty...
