    Leave Our Washers Alone!!

To date I haven't heard of any Aqualtis horror stories, and the online reviews from actual users appear to be overwhelmingly positive. That's no guarantee of course, but it's a good start. The fit and finish of the machine is good, and it does run very smoothly... so yes, nothing at all like the...

    Leave Our Washers Alone!!

Hi mrx, I take it you have an Aqualtis too? It really is a cracking machine, very well thought out and unbelievably quiet too. Hopefully it will prove to be reliable in the long term, but time will tell on that one. Now all they have to do is bring out a matching dryer!

    Leave Our Washers Alone!!

Why not a front-loader with a nice decent water-fill level? Indeed, and we're not necessarily talking about vast increases here either. Raising the water level by just an inch or two would be more than enough to satisfy most users, while still maintaining sufficient lift-and-drop wash action...

    Leave Our Washers Alone!!

Couldn't agree more :o) Having had a washer with super-stingy water levels (Zanussi Jetsystem), I would never want another one again. It did wash well, but a normal cottons cycle with extra rinse took 2h 26m to complete, and even then the rinsing performance was consistently dreadful. Nothing...

    UK: Ariel 2x concentrated liquid

Having checked the P&G Science In The Box website, there are a couple of Daz 2x variants listed - regular and Citrus Blast. I guess this means if they're not in the shops already, they'll be appearing very soon. See link, and click on brand names to view individual products :o)...

Just To Prove That Oz Omo is the same as Persil...

Persil S&M is currently my daily driver, and it's the first product I've truly liked since the old white Persil liquids disappeared from the shelves years ago. So far it hasn't overfoamed on me yet, and during the wash cycle all I see is a light froth. After two rinses the water is totally clear...

    UK: Finish Dishwasher Detergent

Saw these in the supermarket just the other day, and promptly put them back down again. 10-in-1? Oh please, this is getting out of hand. Several years ago I used nothing but Finish liquid, and always found it did a top job. At the time it was the best thing going for removing tea and coffee...

    Hiring Domestic Help . . .

Great advice so far I clean for a living too, and am constantly baffled at how little thought some people put into choosing domestic help. Many just pick a company out of the phone book at random (usually because the ad "looks nice"), don't interview the business owner properly, and basically...

    New Detergent Find

Not true! While I can't speak for the rest of Europe, on the UK mainland at least, phosphate detergents have not been banned. Although nowhere near as common nowadays compared to years gone by, there are still plenty to choose from if you know what to look for. Branded phosphate detergents I...

New Models from Simpson and Electrolux

Hi Ash, Been a long time since I last posted, but I thought the link below might be helpful so decided to pass it along. This is the user manual for the new Water Aid washer, which may be the machine referenced to above. It seems the new Electrolux top loader borrows from the principle of...

    Clearing out the clutter...

First time I moved into my own place, I was lucky enough to have an attic and a large cellar. With all that free storage space, it was all to easy to plunk stuff there and think "I'll deal with that later", but we all know how this works out in reality. Later never comes, because there's always...

    Krups - Never Again!

I have a Krups Expert coffee machine in my study, about a year old now, that was made in France. Brews directly into a stainless steel vacuum flask, so no hotplate, and generally it makes good coffee as long as you use fresh beans and the correct grind. However, the build quality is dire, and it...

    Washer capacity question...

The 1:10 loading ratio, as well as being the method Miele uses to calculate drum capacity, also seems to be the standard used by many commercial washer manufacturers too. Hoover obviously doesn't agree with this, because the machine shown above (which claims to wash a 9kg load) has an actual...

Too Much Detergent… or too Little?

Hi Carl, Try reducing the dosage and see what happens, there's very little to lose. You might be pleasantly surprised, and find that everything comes out just as clean as it does now. The worst that could possibly happen is that you'll need to rewash the load, and stick to the recommended...

    Best Detergents for Rinsing

Hi Carl, The detergent itself being the culprit, as Ralf suggests, is often something I've wondered about too. Setting my Zanussi for a synthetics cycle with extra rinse gives a vintage-style programme with 4 x deep rinses, similar to machines of years gone by. Even so, I still find some modern...

    Liquids vs Powders (Euro)

Am currently using Persil S&M myself and really like it, because it's very low sudsing and rinses out easily. The scent reminds me a little of classic Ariel liquid, which is another bonus. That said, in my experience no liquid detergent does an outstanding job on serious soiling, particularly...

    Zapping Critters in your Carpets

Sounds good in theory, but as we all know, real world usage can be an entirely different matter altogether. The UV exposure time would be very short indeed once this unit is in the hands of the average user, simply because many people vacuum way too quickly and are easily satisfied once the...

Mexican Detergents/Fabric Softeners Disappearing From Shelves?

Until recently, Unilever always stated on their packaging "Top loaders and twin tubs: double the dosage recommended for your particular washing conditions". As to why they no longer include this statement, perhaps they feel it's less relevant nowadays; agitator machines are no longer produced...

    CR Blender reviews

Pete, Rex - Thanks for the comments guys, much appreciated. Although this appliance is easily purchased over here, finding someone who actually has one and can share their experiences with it is a different matter. Point taken with regard to the VM's kneading capabilities, I had my suspicions...

    CR Blender reviews

Vita-Mix To those who own/use the Vita-Mix, do you find that it lives up to all the hype on the company website? I'm getting dangerously close to ordering one, but part of me says that if something sounds too good to be true, then it probably is. At £399 UKP for the basic machine, plus £99 for...
