    Who uses which compressor nowadays?

Don’t we all seem to know someone who has a refrigerator that has gone through multiple compressors early in life? Someone I know recently bought a new Frigidaire whose compressor maybe lasted 90 days. I consider myself fortunate that my four freezers and refrigerators have never had a...

    Solid-State relay recommendations.

I’ve seen Robert and perhaps others use solid-state relays to control various AC functions of appliances. Usually these SS relays are used during restoration/updating of appliances. Can anyone provide a part number, or description of a SS relay to control 120VAC device? I am hoping for a 5v...

    Samsung Heat Pump Washer Dryer

Refrigerant? What type of refrigerant is being used by these combos? I would be very fearful of a unit using an explosive refrigerant, especially with so many sources of ignition within the same box.

    Can a Microwave run continously?

Electric can opener I believe that an electric can opener is one appliance that cannot run continuously.

    A question about POT

We purchased this copper, tin-lined pot at an estate sale. Notice that it has a subtle trapezoidal shape. What is the intended purpose of this style pot?

    LG refrigerator / no ice

Dubious about condensEr Ugh. Spell-check keeps changing condensor to condenser. Anyway, I was dubious about the condenser being too small. Not impossible I imagined, but just… a weird fix. The failure of the original compressor as you describe is the correct answer to be sure.

    LG refrigerator / no ice

A friend who enjoys filling his house with LG reported this to me. See what you think. What I report here is hearsay, as accurately as I can recall. After his recent move to a new home, he bought all new LG appliances including a new refrigerator. Model number unknown. This is NOT the model...

    camcorders with bad capacitors

Fish oil capacitors My two cents. It has been a long while since I’ve dealt with this. Fish-oil type surface-mount electrolytic were (and still are) a cancer on compact electronics. Personally I don’t think that usage will change things much. I’ve seen camcorders of various brands develop...

Consumer Reports spot on CBS Sunday Morning

I cancelled my subscription years ago. Although I won’t disagree that CR has SOME value, their reports seem radically lacking in detail as compared to years before. Nowadays, they seem to blandly opine on quality with meager testing reports rather reporting technical testing data to justify...

    more chinese dehumidifiers recalled...(fire hazard)

This blows my mind I have such trouble understanding how Chinese manufacturers cannot make a dehumidifier that doesn’t catch fire. After millions of recalls and probably a wealth of samples to examine, can they not enhance the construction as to not ignite? And I am a Certified Fire and...

    Generic electric washer drain pump

Thanks, but another question arises I am asking this question based upon a (probably flawed) image of the mechanism in my mind. During drainage, I believe(d) that the “drain solenoid” kicks the belt onto a spinning idler, thus transmitting rotation to the drain pump itself. I surmised that if I...

    Generic electric washer drain pump

I asked this question before but I lost the data. When y’all retrofit a vintage washer with a new, electric drain pump, what part (part number) do you use? I have a 1953-ish Whirlpool washer with a finicky mechanical drain pump that I wish to swap out to an electric pump. Thanks much!

Manufacturer’s codes to identify true manufacturer.

I know this has come up before, but here we go again. I am drawing a blank. Appliances have codes (EIA Code ?? ) that identify the core manufacturer. Is a list or chart of these codes available? (I’ll probably be buying a new dehumidifier and there are manufacturers I wish to avoid.) Thanks.
