    WAYMO Technology

I did a study out this summer out at U-M in Ann Arbor (they have an autonomous test lab out away from campus) on bodily stress in autonomous vehicles. Essentially they took me for two different autonomous rides (each about 10-12 mins) at varying speeds (one was slow and gentle, one was faster...

KA-WP appliance merger in the '80s

there is a need for small commercial undercounter dishwashers with fast cycle times. There is research, though, that if fast cycle times aren't crucial, domestic dishwashers (with thermal hold for sani-cycles) are perfectly fine and NSF certified for small commercial installations (say, a B&B...

    Lady K combo

We stay yearly at a small (6 room) B&B in southern Vermont (Frog Meadow Farm----recommend it HIGHLY). They realized that their big bottleneck was laundry, so before expanding from 4 to 6 rooms went from 1 pair to 2 pair of big-ass LG frontloaders.

Buying a new Toilet this weekend - Any advice?

The one-piece toilets sometimes cost additional for installation. We have been going for several years to a men's resort in Key West (Island House---excellent place) that has a cooperation agreement with one of the bidet manufacturers (I don't recall the brand but the UI is great--two...

    12v Automobile Battery

Just had a happy surprise...got back to Detroit after a month away--to a dead battery on the Saab. AAA came out to replace--to tell me it was from 2017 (I was sure I'd replaced it in 2021-2022...could remember exactly which store where I bought it, but it's that COVID era fuzziness about...

    Number PULEAZE! Part Eight:

My aunt lives in Lorain County, Ohio. They are in the unenviable position of having 4 phone companies in a county of about 300k people----Frontier, AT&T, the successor to Lorain Telephone, and Windstream formerly Alltel. Lots of local toll place to place still

    Vintage Food Advertisements: Part Twenty-five

exactly...regular mayonnaise doesn't allow for that. A starch containing "mayonnaise" may be perfectly palatable, preferred and/or perform better in use, but it's not mayonnaise. https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-21/chapter-I/subchapter-B/part-169/subpart-B/section-169.140

    Vintage Food Advertisements: Part Twenty-five

Don't think that the USDA definition of Mayonnaise allows for "starchy fillers". Oil, egg, acid, flavoring is all that's allowed. That was the whole "thing" about Miracle Whip---the food engineers at Kraft in the 1930s figured out that they could extend mayonnaise with a starch slurry and season...

Chef Master ? wall oven for sale Toronto

Kind of interesting---there is a Chef brand down in Australia, but this seems pretty clearly only branded on the silkscreen panel. It doesn't look completely American, though...were there any gas built-ins ever made in Canada in the 60s? There Electric cookery seems more the standard (though...

    12v Automobile Battery

the distinction is that although the hybrid battery is high voltage, all hybrids and EVs also have a 12v battery (to save the car manufacturers having to re-engineer equipment like horns/lights/etc

Built-in Frigidaire system from 1926, repair for 100th year anniversary!

This is so cool! Have been in a couple homes/mansions in the city of Detroit with functioning built-ins from this period with the remote compressor. Seems like they are more Kelvinator branded up here (which makes sense) than Frigidaire I believe which was from upstate NY at the time.

The History of the Introduction of the Automatics thru Newspapers

I worked at the Tri-County LS Ayres (originally Pogue's) in 1986 and 1987 while in grad school at U of Cincinnati. Worked in linens/domestics. At that point the Shillito's at the other end of the mall was rebranded to Shillito Rikes. The stores were both classic early 60s suburban branch mall...

    New Kenmore Vacuum

I've got the lower end of this line---bought at a closing KMart several years ago. Only thing I don't care for is the short/springy hose and the suction vent interferes with using the turbo tool on the stairs

The History of the Introduction of the Automatics thru Newspapers

I get through there every now and again (generally a quick detour off 75)...I don't like to drive through Cincinnati without a meal at Skyline and ice cream at Graeter's, and the ones in Clifton are conveniently and nostalgically located.

Near new looking Kenmore stove at our restore for $150 Canadian.

Did this perhaps come out of the Quebec Electrolux plant near Montreal (which closed in the last 10 years)?

A Dutch newspaper ad with a 1957 Frigidaire Unimatic in it

That looks like an interesting combination of stuff---locally sourced refrigerators; that narrow-looking stove may be from Canada or Australia (likely not coming from the US), spinner definitely locally sourced, dishwasher and the big washer/dryer from Dayton....
