Heat pump dryers available in Australia

I don't know about the best, but I have 3 "scrounged" heat pump dryers and they are quite different.   The first one is a real cheapy - a Solt from the Good Guys. I salvaged it brand new but damaged from the skip behind a store, they had dropped something heavy on it (probably off a forklift)...

Thanks Dave. The mystery is solved.

    Changing user name

Hi Dave I'm still confused about the Krayo - is it like Crayola or Crayon?? Or like Crying emojis?? Thanks.

    Changing user name

I have long wondered about the significance of your name on this site, Dave. Are you able to tell us the origins of this name? It's fine if you want to keep it private, but I am interested.

    hot plates and portable stoves

Go induction, you won't regret it. (As long as your post are compatible.)   I have just a single cheapie, and it's fantastic. Mine is the same as this, though it has a different brand name on it. This is Kmart Australia, not Kmart USA, just to be clear.   Note that this model has its...

Wilkins Servis Pitman transmissions and their internals

Sorry but I'm just not that familiar with the WS machines. You seem to have more detailed knowledge of them than I do.   I think Leon (Mayfan 69) has one of those WS machines and would have a more informed opinion than me. You could send him a direct message to ask him.

    EPA Reversals

The coolant issue is a racket...  Oh, for goodness sake. One of the best "new" refrigerants is either butane, or a propane/butane mix, I think it's R600a?? It is incredibly cheap, much cheaper than the patented alternatives. And its not really "new" at all.   Why is it that every time...

Wilkins Servis Pitman transmissions and their internals

Well I thought someone more knowledgeable than me would answer this.   Nobody has yet, so here's my guess... I don't think it is an Aussie transmission design. Most likely it uses a Maytag transmission imported from the USA. AFAIK Wilkins Servis did some superficial changes to improve...

    EPA Reversals

LEDs can have any light colour you want. They are not inherently blue.   I don't know about in the USA but here in Australia, LED lights are marked with their intensity (in lumens) and their colour temperature (In degrees Kelvin.) Most decent brands have a choice of Cool White (stark white...

70s (?) Maytag Coin op in Melbourne AUS

Very common I'd think. Much newer than 1970s?? They are still in use in Laundromats all over the place.

So it looks like the machine in the original post possibly does spin after all.

    Modern Maid!

Why are they no longer so popular? I suspect because the catalytic liner slowly degrades over time, and can struggle with heavy greasy deposits.   Also pyrolytic is the flavour of the month. People shopping for a self-cleaning oven are generally searching out pyrolytic these days.   There...

    Modern Maid!

continuous clean oven If it had a rough grey interior, it was a catalytic lining. These have a layer that absorbs fatty splatters, and gradually break them down using normal oven heat - no need for a special cleaning cycle. The catalytic layer does become less effective over a few years - some...

Cute " Micro Mini" Washer/Dryer Combo Amazon

You would SAVE energy by using a regular front loader to wash your dirty wash cloths, and drying them outdoors on a line, indoors on a rack, or drying them with your other washing in a dryer.

Cute " Micro Mini" Washer/Dryer Combo Amazon

I'd be highly suspicious that this machine doesn't spin at all. It would be difficult to design such a small machine with suspension and make it sit stable on the counter during a spin, so I doubt it spins. The Nova Sirocco Mini Wash sold here many years ago was like that - just a tumble washer...

    Rare Westinghouse washers! And dryer!

Answer to Chetlaham "I've always wondered, can your 10 amp sockets go on a 16 amp circuit? "   I'm assuming you are asking me about Australian wiring standards?   Our maximum current draw for an appliance plugged in to a standard wall outlet is 10 amps, but the wiring is (I think) usually...

    Rare Westinghouse washers! And dryer!

Just noticed on photo 6, the image shows a standard 115V plug and wall outlet, the cable looks quite light, the text below that image says "Dryer adapts quickly to standard 115 Volts... plugs into ordinary wall outlet." Yet the specifications state (for 115 Volt operation) "115 Volt 2-wire 60...

    Speed Queen in Australia

Choice have tested Speed Queen top loaders and they rate poorly. (The one tested here is an earlier machine than the one pictured in the original post.) They even feature in this "Washing machines to avoid" article. The article is free for all to view, unlike their full tests which are...

Vintage Frigidaire Laundry Center In UK

Do we think this is a new item? (the polystyrene insert suggests it might be brand new??)   I wonder if a migrant from the USA brought this with them and found *shock horror* that UK voltage isn't compatible?? I have heard of similar happening here - particularly US Military personnel have...

    LG WM4000HWA coming Wednesday!

Hi Ryne   I'm glad you are liking this new LG washer.   Once you become more comfortable with using this machine, can I suggest you contact LG head office in Korea and give them some suggestions for future models in how to make their machine more user-friendly for blind people. For example...
