Vintage Frigidaire Laundry Center In UK

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

New 1980s WCI Frigidaire laundry center

In the UK nonetheless, that's pretty amazing. I can't believe anybody spent €700 for it that's more than it was worth new back in the 80s, at least if it's run on 50 cycles it will probably tumble properly most of the dryers that were sold here in that time. They accidentally put the 50 cycle pulley on them and they tumbled so fast. They wouldn't dry clothing properly.

I wonder if this is just the US version that runs on 120/240 V or if it's a real machine that was designed for straight 240 V power and 50 cycles?

Would love to see a picture of the model sticker with the specs on it.

Do we think this is a new item? (the polystyrene insert suggests it might be brand new??)

I wonder if a migrant from the USA brought this with them and found *shock horror* that UK voltage isn't compatible??

I have heard of similar happening here - particularly US Military personnel have come to work on a base in Australia, US military paid for all their possessions to be shipped here, when they got here, every damn electrical item didn't work...

Also I have a distant relative who ordered a microwave oven online (because it was a particular colour!!) without checking it was correct voltage. it was Daewoo microwave oven made in China for the USA market. When it arrived, they noticed the US plug didn't fit, so just used a plug adapter and plugged the US spec 110V microwave oven into Aussie 240V. Instant dead, brand new microwave oven. It had major electronics damage. I was asked if I could resurrect it, but I couldn't find an equivalent 240V model to do a conversion, in the end the brand new micro went to scrap metal.

IIRC those types of machines were sold commercially in the UK for the likes of care homes etc. I remember seeing a white one (I don't know if it was a Frigidaire or another brand) in a laundry room in a care home next to a local hospital I was visiting back in 2011.

24 inch Frigidaire top load stack washer dryer

I can't imagine that this would've been very good for a commercial type setting or heavy continuous use, it is true that similar top load stacks may have been used this way the whirlpool milk machines, the Speed Queen top load stack and even the full-size Frigidaire top load stack wasn't too bad.

But using this 24 inch top load stack in a heavy use situation would be like using a Yugo for a police car, lol
