Any positive comments for pre 1980 Norge/Wards dryers?

The dryer in post #1 gets me. I like the drum color, the compass rose at the back of it, the air holes, the dial, the choice of two timed cycles, the "Permanent Press 18" and the fabric selector. You can stair at them oven and over in a vintage laundry room. Does anyone know how well these...

    Gorgeous laundry set for sale

Absolutely a stunning laundry room. How nice it would be doing laundry there during a sunset or during the winter while its snowing. For the archive:

The drum is perfect. How do you wash? What temps and detergents?

And no fading? The dryer is more likely to shrink, but water and its wash is going to do most of the fading, bleeding, pilling, linting, ect.

Warm Water Washing Is the New

Well, I'd call that a Pre-wash rather than a pre-soak. Super soiled clothes need a drain and re-fill, but super stained clothes do best without draining the water. It defeats the purpose of letting enzymes work while wasting detergent and water. This is what I have never liked about many top...

Warm Water Washing Is the New

Another notable thing I have noticed since I started washing exclusively in warm and with Tide Professional: The scum ring around the top of the wash basket has started to gradually peal back. Meanwhile, there is ZERO scum around the agitator, vanes, holes and the bottom of the softener...

Warm Water Washing Is the New

I agree, however when I wash in cold it is things like bright colors only which bleed easily. 75*F is ok, but honestly I like to air on the side of caution and strive for 60-70*F when washing bright items. Most of my bright items are not stained and not heavily soiled so I don't notice the lack...

Warm Water Washing Is the New

For a while now I've conceptualized top load washers with either a long pre-soak before the wash or building soaks into the wash period itself. I will gladly take the option of 15-20 extra minutes of cycle time if it means less energy and less fading of fabrics while producing superior results...

Warm Water Washing Is the New

I remember you telling me about the tempering valve. Personally, (and this is only due to personal preference, not saying you are wrong or that I am right) I like having the water heater set at 142*F. I find 140*F in the tub is the minimum hot temperature which gives the best wash results for...

Warm Water Washing Is the New

I'm with you. I treat the temperature indicated is the maximum at which the fabric is safe to wash vs what is optimal to get the fabric clean. Personally, I think Kenmore had the most brilliant approach. They set ATC warm wash at 100*F and ATC warm rinse at 75*F. Personally, I would have...

By any chance do you know what longer cycle times are ideal? I have thought about incorporating more soaks into my laundry routine to let enzymes work best.

what would be your choice of vintage dishwasher to install in a modern kitchen if you do not went something modern or with manual filter to clean

Ideally, if I was a high powered executive at Sears, I would have sourced the entire 1983-1987 Kenmore lineup from GE with all the models having a filter in the back. I then would have quickly phased in ultra wash from the TOL down to where the the early 90s all Kenmores BOL to TOL would be...

    For The GE Filter-Flow Guys

That almost new blue look porcelain basket really gets me. I also like the soak cycle which I wash all washers had. Only thing I would do differently is have it retain the water and go straight into the normal cycle. How I wish these machines were still in production today but with a modified...

Same here. It is just a hypothesis but after seeing better results with warm water I think those enzymes in Tide Professional are dying off with 140*F hot water.

what would be your choice of vintage dishwasher to install in a modern kitchen if you do not went something modern or with manual filter to clean

I too am really curious about why Sears choose D&M over GE. It might have been GE reputation prior to the Perma tuffs. If I had to pick between a plastisol and a D&M I'd go for the D&M even though both are relatively poor dishwashers in both longevity and performance. Plastisol (no matter how...

Warm Water Washing Is the New

So after switching to Tide Professional powdered detergent and installing a 50/50 358277 mixing valve which provides about 105*F warm water I noticed that clothes actually come out cleaner when using Tide Professional with warm water instead of hot water. Tide Professional is the best detergent...

You're preaching to the choir here :) In all seriousness I need to get them installed on my pipes.

    Time For a New Furnace

My neighbor down the street put insect screen netting held in place with hose clamps on his direct vent PVC pipes. I've been meaning to do the same for 15 years but keep pushing it aside LOL. I've never had anything big enter my furnace but I guess it is only a matter of time before I am kicking...

    GE Washer WA-1250Y Service Manual

Lucky customer! That might explain the lack of water level control although I know some very BOL residential GE models did not have any water level control. GE seems to have made every combination of speed, temps, water level and cycles imaginable.

Hmmm, that is interesting. Could be a typo when the video was uploaded. Or maybe a price match machine? Dunno, that peaks my interest even more now.
