March 1982 was good for MATCHED HOTPOINTS!

Really fantastic work guys - the washer looks like new...amazing! Love the angled side-by-side shot - classic Hotpoint brochure...can just see the one now, with the 1464 twin tub - something like the pic attached from the 1983 Superbuy range Your real thing is much, much cooler though... :-)

Hotpoint History - Filling a gap in the 70s

At least one 45 year old English Electric Liberator survives This a great story - I wonder how much longer this machine will last? Thanks to Jamie for confirming the detail about the fire at Hotpoint - I knew I'd heard about that before, and the new info about the 1600 is really great too...

Hotpoint History - Filling a gap in the 70s

Hey Paul Thanks for the pic - great looking machine - though the concept of a top loader under a counter is very strange indeed. I love the idea that "extra items can be added during the wash sequence" for an under work surface TL - were you supposed to leave the machine out while it operated...

Hotpoint 1469 Twin Tub (Pre Liberator) With English Electric Agitator.

Hey Mark Great to see that machine in action - it is amazing how different the EE straight vane agitator is to the Hotpoint Spiraclean. I didn't realise that the twintub filter-clean tray came with the snap-on guard. Do you still have the English Electric Liberator too? That's a real gem to...

Hotpoint History - Filling a gap in the 70s

Paul (and others!) - thanks for the great pics!! The 1508 is a cool looking machine - basically a decapitated 1504! I wonder why they went for the front controls? Surely one of the advantages of the conventional top-loader design was the easily accessible panel - having them at waist-height...

    SnowCap

ESB rebadges Hi MRX The ESB rebadged the Servis Supertwin in the 1970s as the ESB Multiwash, not sure what else they did at the time. They didn't stock Hotpoint from the late 70s through to the mid 80s - probably because they couldn't get good discount deals. In the late 70s early 80s they...

    Poor PowerPoint

Different Merlonis Hi ariston.... There are two different branches of the Merloni family tree - long split - one is Antonio Merloni, the other formerly called Merloni Elettrodomestici (now called Indesit Company) - they are separate firms: Antonio Merloni produces washers that are sold under...

Hotpoint History - Filling a gap in the 70s

Hi Paul Great to have such comprehensive info on the Hotpoint Front Loaders - how is the spreadsheet going? Unfortunately, I doubt if Hotpoint have a 1600 still - I read somewhere that when Merloni took over, all 'old' material was thrown out, including service manuals, and even an untouched...

Hotpoint History - Filling a gap in the 70s

All about merging The history of Hotpoint in the UK goes a bit like this: Started in 1911 - and by 1920 was operating as an agency importing small appliances to the UK (under the GE and Hotpoint marques). In 1923, the firm began production of wringer washers - as Mike notes, a licensed version...

    Malber USA!

Two sides of the Merloni Family The Malber machines look like models from Antonio Merloni, sold as Servis in the UK, and the Splendide look like Ariston/Hotpoints, made by Indesit Company, formerly known as Merloni Elettrodomestici -the other part of the family...both marques have mixed...

    GE to auction appliance unit

Maybe Indesit will try to buy them out GE had a substantial holding in GDA (the post GEC owner of Hotpoint and associated brands in the UK). Indesit (or Merloni Elettrodomestici as it was known at the time) bought out GDA's holding (about 50%), and have purchased more since. Indesit is now a...

New washing machines built to last???

More badge-engineering The TOL ISE machine is an ASKO - also sold here as a Maytag (a better sounding name for people who live in posh houses, I guess)...the other models have that plain but good look of some Whirlpools or Electrolux/Tricity-Bendix/John Lewis type machines. The claim is that...

Increased Wire Hanger Prices Hurting American Dry Cleaners

    Ariel Power Liquid

New fragrances... Has anyone noticed that Persil powders have changed scent (or am I the only person still using powder?!) - the non-bio and handwash/twintub now have the same strong and rather artificial smell as the bio - not the nice old bleachy smell...grr Sainsbury's Blue Linen conditioner...

Hotpoint-Ariston - rather like what happened to Philips-Whirlpool in the 1980s (just swap the name order around!).

    whoops

Loving the purple! Hey Mark Great to see the purple Italia-point - I remember seeing one of those as a kid in Ireland. Hope all is good with you! Rob - I wonder how long Hotpoint imported the Zanussi machines? I think they brought these machines in at a stage in the 70s when they were...

    Laundy in Slovenia

Irish plugs and sockets MRX's description of European plugs is great, and I thought it might be interesting to note that for many years, the antecdent of the modern Schuko 7/4 (Schutzkontakt) plug found in most of Europe was also common in Ireland. This was because of the involvement of...
