    Tv lamp socket

From this single image, it's hard to tell exactly how the switch and lamp socket are conjoined (if at all) and if the socket is [commonly] attached to the porcelain fixture along with the switch through that single hole thru the use of a custom mount attaching to the base of the socket using...

Your Hit Parade Sponsored By Crosley

<span style="font-family: helvetica;">Although Lucky Strike was an 'alternate sponsor' for this episode of Your Hit Parade, Lucky Strike (American Tobacco) was the exclusive sponsor for this show as heard on radio from 1935 to 1953, and the main sponsor as seen on television from 1950 to 1959...

Sous-Vide or Not Sous-Vide that is the question...

Incredibly-Yummy Chuck Roast I've had a Joule sous vide cooker for over two years and can attest to the consistently great results to everything from beef, chicken (definitely the best chicken breasts I've eaten), pork and salmon - to eggs, vegetables and desserts. The images are of a chuck...

    Kitchen disaster

I Feel Your Pain One of the more frustrating things to happen in the kitchen is when the first attempt at a recipe comes out really well.  So... questions answered, experience gained - or so one would think. The next attempt - the results are different - occasionally greatly so.  Go figure-! ...

    Round ceiling diffusers

I can't say I'm a particularly big fan of round diffusers used in residential homes; although in commercial applications they strike me as just fine. (Go figure). I would say round registers tend to 'make a statement', whereas rectangular units tend to sit flush to the ceiling - or close to it...

Early 1960s ad for General Motors-Holdens incl. Frigidaire

Fascinating little promo film. From the resolution, it's hard to tell if that's a 1961 or 1962 Pontiac; but that's definitely a 1961 Chevrolet - and based on the brief glimpse of trim - a Biscayne (in the States, anyway). So, presume the film dates to 1961 - as the caption indicates. Thanks...

    Nutone built-in food center

If memory serves, remove the speed control knob, and located either above or below the knob shaft there should be a recessed slotted screw, that when turned CCW, will retract those brackets. (I believe Nutone recommended installers fill the screw hole with some sort of putty to prevent any...

    Westinghouse Bottle Chiller

Free Coca-Cola One way to 'cheat' the system was to use a bottle opener on the captivated bottles, and simply stick a straw into your bottle of choice, and enjoy "The pause that refreshes". Of course, this meant you had to do all your imbibing while leaning-over the cooler... (Nothing's perfect).

How old is my KitchenAid mixer?

The "C" equals 1993; the "38" equals the 38th week. So, it was manufactured on the 3rd week of September, 1993. (The "W" refers to the Greenville, Ohio Whirlpool factory). Hope this helps.

    Recipes and Millennials...

I agree with everyone here. It seems to fall into the category of everything nowadays needing some sort of "story", rather than merely "just the facts, ma'am" - when nothing more need be said. I'll say this, though, in reference to Matt's first example - 'the cupcake project', and the recipe...

    WP mixer

A Bosch Rip-Off When half of the reviews are essentially negative, that must mean something.   'Wolfie' is merely copying the Bosch Universal mixer. And based on the impossibly-low price, I have to presume - in looks only. Suspect it has little chance of performing well or giving any sort of...

    Because Pushing Buttons is Hard

And It All Starts with the Click of a Switch-! (or Alexa) Just because a technology exists, doesn't mean we should do/use it. Once again, another reason for pause, as we move even further and further into [a possible] oblivion.
