Root Canal Treatment or Tooth Extraction? Not for the squeemish!

What's the big deal about root canal anyway? I fall asleep durring them sometimes. And it's NOT the stuff the dentist is giving me that's doing it, either. Seriously. if you can swing the $$$, I hear the tooth implants are amazing, if you're a good candidate for them.

    Pet Washing Machine

I once or twice rinsed my cat off. She didn't enjoy it, but a quick dunk, scrub belly, pull out, towel, hug, and she didn't complain. Some cats are REMARKABLY patient though. Cats are generally self cleaning, but do get a bit too dirty at times.

    Maytag Dependable Care Washers Extinct

I once stayed in a motel with a Haier fridge in it. The door wouldn't stay closed (It was level), so I ended up propping a phone book under it to keep it tilted back. What a POS.

    Who knows early refrigerators?

Nope. No time for roadtrips anywhere big this year. Unless you count field calls for the company work for, in which case it looks like I'll be at a sewer plant a few days this summer. (Seriously, you get used to the smell quickly. It's natural gas that I can't stand at all, and the CNG pumper...

CR Backs Off Disputed Test Results

They rated at least one child seat from the test set of 12 ok. It was later revealed the crash tests were done at 70mph. Hey, what's the seat that passed? That's the one to buy!

    Who knows early refrigerators?

I've got a 30's non monitor top GE fridge on LI that needs a home. It's missing 1 or 2 inside parts (cover for icebox), i can't assure you it'sll work, either, though it did cool last time i tried it. It'd be good for a resto, if an yone wants it - my parents sure as heck don't, and they'd like...

    Halogen Headlights

Misfire CAN waste your catalyst eventually. But, the #1 reason for the check engine light is loose gas cap. But check those bad coils - misfires can blow out your catalyst, and that's NOT cheap, especially since in many states, you need it to pass the state inspection. Oh yeah, I'd look long...

    Heat Pump Frosting - Defrosting

Heat pumps are somewhat rare in the northeast. You see a LOT of forced air, hot water, and even quite a bit of steam heat. I've read that hot water systems can be very efficient, too. And insulation helps! When I get a house, one of the first things is gonna be expandofoam insulation. This is a...

    A born-again Magic Minute! 1959 Kelvinator

Ok, how does the thing work? I get the eccentric shaft, but what keeps the agitator from spinning around? Blind faith?

    Antique Wascomat-In New York

Hey, where's that LM in Fort Lee? It'd be neat to see one of these in action. What vintage are they anyway? Wascomat I think is based on Long Island, or at least their US ops are. I can't imagine they manufacture them there though...

Pain in The Butt Car Dealers

Never buy a car on the weekend, if you can avoid it. Try a monday or tuesday, when they're bored. They wanna sell a car those days, and cut the crap. Weekends? It's a circus there and it's like shooting fish in a barrel for them. Tuesday evening? It's deserted and there's nothing selling. I...

    Vintage amplifier wattages

Many people see the lackluster horsepower ratings of electric automobiles and think that they would be slow. Quite the contrary! Electric motors produce their maximum torque at ZERO RPM. Electric vehicles tend to accellerate rather quickly, and don't need transmissions. While an electric motor...

    Vintage amplifier wattages

Most of the time, you'll only peak at a few watts with any amp, if the speakers are efficient. Oh, and there are plenty of punchy tube amps - the venerable McIntosh Mc275 is rated 75 watts / channel, but it's clean well beyond that. The headroom's useful, but even a 15 watt amp will fill the room.

Final Results from the Extraction Test

Ok: What's the tube diamters and approximate g's generated for each washer? It'd be interesting to see how they place, plus solid/perf tub. Remember a discussion a ways back when Maytag's sell sheets were posted? Did the perf tub make the difference they claimed? It's odd, but the best...

    spinning RPM's

Funniest was my parents Kitchenpool they got in the 90's. Dealer was all about how it spun slower 'to save energy'. Yeah, only the clothes come out sopping wet. I'm guessing the Feds, in their finite wisdom, had something to do with it, just like those stupid 1.5 gallon toilets you have to...

    Cats and X-mas trees

Ahh, my recently departed cat (Wurlitzer, 15ish years, indoors only) never climbed the tree, though when we adopted her, she was already declawed (we didn't choose to, she was dumped at the pound that way). She'd sit under it, sleep under it, chew bows. never climb it. Then again, she always...

Tree Huggers get Their Wish - Samsung "Silver" Washing Machine To Be Regulated

That's nothing. In NJ, you need a discharge permit to wash fruit at a fruit stand. I know a township that was thinking of a desalinization plant. One reason it was nixed? EPA considers salt to be toxic waste... It's getting out of hand. Nobody wants to not be 'for the children', no matter how...

    1960' 3-Speed GE's???

And if anyone's got anything on how the heck the versatronic clutch works, post that too. i'm curious about it.

    PG&E commerical

He'll be less thrilled when he gets the new washer, it doesn't clean clothes, and breaks every 2 years. Seriously, after reading everything about new washers, everywhere, I'm thinking more and more than when I get a house, I'm gonna get an old washer as my primary washer. I can tolerate a new...

    How bout some Oasis action

Is there any way to 'bump up' the water level so that it's at least 1/2way normal? Will washer manufacturers ever stop with the 'wet wipe wash' stuff? This is getting as pathetic as those 1.5 gallon 'low flush' toilets you have to flush 5 or 6 times, constantly clog, and never work right.
