Another area to check: Is the machine slowly draining water when it washing? Look for evidence of water coming out of the drain hose while washing. If so, there is a problem with the drain gate valve. This can be addressed by a simple cleaning or at worst a new pump-motor that the valve is part of.

The yellow discoloration of the drum and brown rusty looking heat inlet both point to a restricted dryer exhaust vent system. The surfaces become overheated from poor air flow through the machine. The inlet grille "rust" is really melted and/or burned on synthetic fibers.

Peter I too have been using it sucessfully on colors. Probably would do fine on whites, but stick with Wisk or Tide enzyme for that. Does not suds too much and its smells nice. Did someone mention its quite inexpensive and goes a long way?

Does your newer model machines have the built in siphon break? If so, it will slow draining somewhat compared to the older machines without.
