Who made Whirlpool Front Lint Filter Models

Today, there appears to be 2 types of Whirlpool dryers; one with the traditional top-mounted lint filter, and one with the filter in the door opening. I once thought the latter model was designed by Maytag, since the layout was so similar, but Gordon KenmoreGuy told me that it's actually a real WP. Now, I wonder if it was designed by WP of UK, using the same layout as the Duet dryer. Can somebody shoot me some info?

I think Kenmore came out with the 1st 27" front servicable dryer about the late 80's or very early 90's. Manufactured by Whirlpool, it was around long before Duets were available in this country. They have about a 7.4 cu ft drum, tumble clockwise and have the blower on the left front. Motors on these dryers seem to fail earlier then their 29" models. I don't think they dry as fast or as evenly as a 29" model. It seems they tend to roll the clothes on the left side of the drum, and clothing doesn't hit the sensor bars

was a Sears exclusive model launched in 1987. It offered an 27" cabinet alternative to the 29". Sometime in the mid 90's it came out with the Whirlpool label too. The features:

*7 cu. ft. or greater drum
*4 way venting. Early models had the 4 way vent built-in
*front filter
*quieter operation
*improved dry rack
*higher hamper door, less bending down
*4 point drum roller suspension
*broken belt switch
*front serviceable

in 2006, two additional new model full size dryers that pair with top load washers were added to the line.

I have this dryer

And I love it. Dries perfectly everytime, and if I can help it I will always have a dryer with a hamper door.

Came with the house, so been using for 12 years. I estimated it was probably at least 10 years old at move-in.
