    Spin-dryer!

The hammered finish on most of it was fine but the base was a little rusty. I did have some spraypaint with this hammered finish so I went ahead and sanded and cleaned the base for a quick coat. I am waiting for it to dry a little before I take the paper off

    Spin-dryer!

Uh-oh Here is a vintage rat nest. It is made of old instruction manuals so it must have got in there right away. The insides look really good though, I don't see any points where it needs lubrication or leaking fluids.

    Spin-dryer!

Now I take off the dull finish and small scratches, etc. with this Mother's Polish. It really works great and is already white.

    Spin-dryer!

Here is some progress on how I do a quick restoration on these items. I first slather it with Soft Scrub with bleach and this does a lot to get out the discoloration and yellowing of the old finish.

    Spin-dryer!

Well it has been a long time since anything interesting has happened over here, but I just picked up this spin-dryer. It is a Creda-Debonair. I read somewhere that it is about 1958. I haven't plugged it in yet or cleaned it up, I think it will clean up pretty good. Does anyone have one of...

    The Light Bulb Conspiracy

I've heard that the term "planned obsolescence" was coined by Henry Dreyfuss about 1957. Anyone else heard this? I have mostly the new bulbs but some fixtures really require the old incandescent.

    Interior doors

Hollow core doors The thing to look for is the side wood, the older ones are mahogany, 50s-early 60s, then they put in cheaper wood. They are often thrown away, but are quite nice looking if properly restored.

    Estate Sale

Very cool Newspaper. Estatesales.net is really active up here, that is where I go to see what is going on. The classified in the newspaper has really dried up. So many mixers out there but the Kitchenaid is so cool

    Electric Grass/Weed Trimmer Collections

here is my Black and Deck lawn trimmer. I apologize as it doesn't have the big blade guard and I can't get to it right now -- I am having to fabricate a new blade for this as the old one is worn too short and they don't make them anymore. The other trimmer is also Black and Decker, I think...

Some thoughts about timers for our vintage appliances

Rewinding Didn't someone on this forum document how they broke open and old timer and rewound it with the properly weighed wire, using a drill? If I remember the operation was a success.

Weekend mini restoration projects: heater and Stanley 45

I didn't really know what this thing was but figured it out on the internet. The Stanley 45 is a really cool plane, I hope to get to use it if I can locate some blades for it. They still make the blades, but I will look around a little now that I know what to look for This was in really rusty...

Weekend mini restoration projects: heater and Stanley 45

Hi all, picked up a few things at a garage sale and an antique store. I didn't take pictures of the process, but it was pretty simple. These both looked terrible. On the heater I polished the mirrored part, and cleaned the black finish. I then used that black stove polish and it really made...
