Hi all, picked up a few things at a garage sale and an antique store. I didn't take pictures of the process, but it was pretty simple. These both looked terrible. On the heater I polished the mirrored part, and cleaned the black finish. I then used that black stove polish and it really made it look like new. Shoe polish might work but this thing is going to get warm and the polish didn't have any odor.

The cord was shot, but I had a really good cloth cord I had picked up in my stash of stuff and swapped it out. I had one of these years ago, they really are neat when they glow in a dark room. It works great and the cord doesn't get hot at all.

I didn't really know what this thing was but figured it out on the internet. The Stanley 45 is a really cool plane, I hope to get to use it if I can locate some blades for it. They still make the blades, but I will look around a little now that I know what to look for

This was in really rusty condition. It was outside. This antique dealer has a lot of stuff just rusting in the rain. Anyway I was able to get it apart, and I put it in a bucket of half vinegar and water for a few days. It still has patina but would work when I get the blades.

Thanks for looking. I like these little projects every so often. Brian

The Stanley plane is a form of router plane-used to form edges of boards. Was used before powered routers were available.Used one of those in a shop class! At one time you could get blade blanks for those and grind your own blades. They also made a router plane that you could use to cut grooves and dados.Again used before powered routers became common. Those hand ones work-but take more time to use.

Got to correct myself here-the plane you show is a rabbit plane-used to cut rabbit joints for joining boards togewther with rabbit joints. The router plane is the one for cutting grooves and dados-used both of those in a shop class long ago-the shop also had powered routers.Just wanted to try the Stanly planes.Could remember the blank blades for the rabbit plane so you could form board edges.

Nice heater & plane

We had a heater like that when I was a little kid, and I was afraid of it for some reason. Ours had a socket that the coil screwed into, like a light bulb. In fact, later on I put a light bulb in it, and my sister & I used it as a spotlight when we were putting on one of our "shows" in the basement.

I have some old planes that were my dad's, but they are the simple type for planning down high spots on wood.
