    Cascade Platinum Plus

Might be the ingredients of a catalyst that activates the powder.   Just a guess.

Let's hope appliance makers aren't contemplating something like this.

"It's a brand new stove!  Why do only two burners work?!"   "We only subscribed to two."   "And is that why the convection doesn't work in the oven?"   "Well, you said we probably wouldn't use it."...

    Attention, Experts please: advice needed

In the dishwasher . . .   A rounded teaspoon in the main wash chamber with your favorite pod, tab, pac or powder.  And use the high-temp wash option if available.   Enzymes + STPP = Clean Dishes Nirvana.   But NEVER, EVER spike your car wash bucket with the stuff.  Most storm drains go...

    The Creative Entertainer Collection

Long skillet and griddle controller cords   The idea was to "decentralize" cooking and make the whole family part of the experience by frying bacon and making pancakes right at the kitchen table as depicted in advertising at the time.   Never mind dodging the bacon grease spatters and Jimmy...

    New obsession with Corning/Pyrex

My favorite unfounded CorningWare rumor:   "Those gray marks are LEAD coming out as the white coating wears off!!  Throw it out!!"   Yes, yes, genius, never mind that CorningWare Pyroceram is the same color through and through, and the "lead" is metal that rubs off of utensils onto the...

    New obsession with Corning/Pyrex

What, no Visions?  Go away.     Just kidding.  I was bitten by the bug too, but the induction stove relegates my CorningWare and Visions to the oven, microwave oven, fridge and freezer.

    Beautiful Launderettes.

Those were the days . . .   Back then, of course, we also dressed up to eat out, shop at Macy's and take an airline flight.

    Some STILL don't get it.

Wandered through the washers 'n' dryers section of the local Home Depot and passed a couple looking over the machines.  Wife is inspecting a top-loader.  Husband, stooped in front of a front-loader, asks "What about this one?"   Wife comes over, scrunches up her face and declares "Doesn't...

    Ungrounded Outlets

Grew up in a house with 2-prongers.   The only grounded outlet was the 220V in the garage for the dryer.  The house was probably refitted to bring the outlets up to code after my parents passed away and we sold it.  It's a Levittown-inspired rancher (single story).   The house Cathy and I...

How likely are you to convert your car to Electric?

Keeping the Subaru on the road as long as possible . . .   . . . and if my retirement income allows and if we really really need two cars, we'll trade in the Honda for another.

Toaster Oven Thread ... what's on your counter?

Whatever happened to the Toast-R-Oven trademark? Black + Decker inherited it from GE. Years later, GE licensed Walmart to sell small appliances under the GE name. Most recently, Haier brought back GE small appliances. No one’s selling a Toast-R-Oven. Just toaster ovens.

    Newtons Old Maytag Buildings Repurposed

A UNESCO World Heritage Site candidate?   The town of Ivrea, Italy is a UNESCO World Heritage Site preserving the 20th Century architecture commissioned by Olivetti.  Are the Maytag buildings on a par historically?   Perhaps someone in Newton can look into it.   Just a thought...

We're in a new world -- Future Fords Could Repossess Themselves

Before monorails are whisking us from place to place . . .   . . . or after our individual cold fusion reactors are powering our homes for a year on $3.87 worth of fuel?
