    mobile maid help

Was there ever a built-in similar to this? The reason I ask is because when I was a young child (early '60s), a neighbor had a built-in that I recall having a front panel similar to this. (I never saw it operate; they used it for storage.)

    Ahem! Electrolux "Gas" Refrigerator

Frost free gas fridge? My guess is that it has some valve setup that allows it to run hot water from the burner through the evap coil to defrost.

    Ahem! Electrolux "Gas" Refrigerator

Interesting about the gas vacuum. The drawings I've seen of absorption-based refrigeration systems show an ammonia-water solution that is boiled by the burner. This creates an ammonia vapor under pressure. The pressure forces the ammonia through a cooling coil and an expansion valve, where it...

All In THe Mix - A British Mixer thread... oh and some French LOL!!!!

Not that kind of mixer... I guess it's a function of how my mind works, but when I saw "British mixers" in the title of this thread, the first things I thought of was Allen & Heath... oops, this is Automaticwasher.org, not Gearslutz... oy.

    Ahem! Electrolux "Gas" Refrigerator

Gas fridges and ammonia Laundress, the gas absorbtion refrigers use ammonia as the refrigerant. And, some of the older ones used hydrogen gas as a carrier to make the ammonia circulate. Both hydrogen and ammonia are flammable, so if a line burst while the fridge was operating, there would be...

The first time you flew in a plane..Was it stressful?

Back in the late '80s when there were a ton of regionals flying turboprops, I recall some interesting flights. ASA used to have a big fleet of Brasilias that they flew to feed traffic to ATL. They had a flight that left HSV at 0530. I took that flight several times so I could be in HOU by 1000...

    Price of Milk

goprog, my dad taught me a long time ago that there are two types of corn. "Sweet" corn is what people eat, and is what corn syrup and sweeteners are made from. "Field" corn is what is fed to livestock. Futures trading is primiarly in sweet corn. I'm not sure what type is used for ethanol...

The first time you flew in a plane..Was it stressful?

I've been flying since I was a small child. The most "vintage" plane I ever flew on back in the day was an Eastern Martin 404. (I didn't find out until some years later that they had a poor safety record...) I've flown on a whole bunch of different planes. My favorite to date is the 777 business...

Portable Air Conditioners: The ugly side of coolness

Computers and air conditioning, or lack thereof I worked for Gould back in the '80s. At the time they were making minicomputers out of ECL technology. It was the fastest digital logic technolgy avaialble at the time, but it was also a notorious power sucker (it does computations by switching...

    Duet Self Clean Cycle

That's odd. You'd think the pump would be running all through the final spin. Or does it even do a final spin on that cycle? Doesn't that cycle use really hot water? Maybe it's vapor that condensed after the cycle ended. Although your post makes it sound like more water than that...

    I Dream of Maytag

I'm a little surprised that the Maytag logo is so clearly visible. No self-respecting producer these days would ever let that happen without getting $$$ for it. Someone who has it, take a look at the closing credits sometime and see if there is a promo-consideration mention for Maytag or a...

    Now for a quiz

Did you work for a phone company? I believe IMTS and CTCSS were signaling systems used beteween telephone switches. "Two-tone sequential" sounds like some kind of signaling system too.
