    Gibson A/C

Funnily enough, Consumer Reports found that air distribution wasn’t any better with the air sweep feature turned on than with it off (they considered it good either way.) I don’t know if that’s true or if it’s just one of their wacky, inexplicable conclusions. I remember quite a few people had...

Berkeley First US City to Ban Natural Gas in New Buildings

Great commercial, Joe. Although the poster must have heard “Argos” for ”Arkla!”

Reply #80 "She'll want to thank you three times a day." Pretty racy stuff for 1960.

    Frigidaire Cold-Control - 1927 to 1929....

Look at the porcelain enamel still gleaming! It’s a beaut. These early belt-driven fridges really have personality. It almost sounds like a sewing machine in the video...maybe it doesn’t in person. I wonder how many cycles that set of points is good for? I guess they wouldn’t need to be...

Bendix refrigerator $100 (North Dartmouth, MA)

Crosley and Bendix were both owned by the Aviation Corporation (Avco). Wikipedia says they were combined in 1951. Apparently this was just an effort to give separate dealers a full line to sell. There’s probably no difference between this and a Shelvador. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avco

    RIP Persil Power Pearls

You could have just checked this forum, since there were posts ad nauseam about it at the time. I stopped worrying about when I found that powder Tide With Bleach works just as well, for me. YMMV, and all that.

Finally Upgraded To A New Browser

Opera works well for me with Windows7. It does give me a little pause that the Norwegian founder sold out to a Chinese tycoon, however. I am not doing anything financial-related with it as a result, but for general browsing it’s fine. Not an expert on Firefox, Ralph, but when I use it I...

    Modern Living: Part Six

Notice the toilet paper that matches the “desert turquoise,” er, “closet.” We have so much choice in consumer goods today, but you can get toilet paper in any color you want as long as it’s white.

    Modern Living: Part Six

If you could still get one of those houses for $16,990, I'd say the cost of adding A/C wouldn't be a dealbreaker. Wonder what those neighborhoods look like today?

They're said to be very quiet, with most of the "works" outside the window.

Neat, and I also love how the seller specifies that the cases of beer don’t come with it.

POE 5-8-19 Coupon for Tide in Kelvinator Washer

If my superficial web search is right, hubby is now 71 or 72, so if this ad is 50 years old, he wasn’t that far out of diapers himself! Which raises the question: How did P&G’s ad agency find these “real people” and how were they compensated? I’m guessing they contacted people who had bought...

    Haier's success with GEappliances

An article from October says: LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) – A Kentucky-based home appliances business says it will add 400 jobs as part of a $200 million investment at its sprawling Louisville operation. GE Appliances on Monday announced plans to expand its laundry and dishwasher production at...

    Servel Natural Gas Refrigerator

Thank you, Bob, I didn't know that about the Astrodome. I wonder if low gas prices might bring back gas AC in some applications? The Bob and Ray clip is just a comedy bit, as Mr. Science can't really explain how a flame creates cold.

    Kitchenaid pair

I have the washer, but it’s currently inoperable because of a timer problem, and the timer is NLA. It could probably be fixed but nobody seems to know anything about these rapid advance timers any more.
