    How traffic signals work (1937)

Thanks Eddie, I appreciate you sharing your little snippet of history, I was born in the wrong era to be interested in any of this sadly, so every little bit of information helps me learn more, since I cannot experience it directly.

    How traffic signals work (1937)

Eddie, was your office a #1 Crossbar Tandem or a #4A Crossbar tandem? I remember you saying it handled CAMA (Centralized Automatic Message Accounting) likely from #1 and #355A step by step offices, as well as independent, non-Bell System offices. Rural offices needed an operator at the tandem to...

    How traffic signals work (1937)

That "magic-box" uses a rudimentary form of computer based on relay logic. If you think this is complicated, even into the 1990s much of the long-distance telephone switching here in the US was done by Western Electric #4A toll crossbar eXchanges, these machines used relay logic and devices...

How do you remove sunscreen stains that turned pink after soaking in chlorine bleach?

I would try a really heavy surfactant, that has a solvent in it, Lestoil would work well I'd bet, it has stoddard solvent which would have a better chance at removing the oils.

White Knight 3.5kg tumble dryer - Opinions please

British flag complexity... I believe what he meant was to use the Union Jack,(the first image) instead of the English flag(second image).   In the UK, there are flags representing each country that makes up the UK(United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland). Britain is only England...

New member saying hello and seeking advice

Please correct me is I'm wrong, but That machine is I believe what we would call an "AmanaTag" here in the states. What happened was that the old Raytheon Speed Queen/Amana design was bought out by the Goodman furnace and air conditioner company, which then got absorbed by Maytag in the late...

Mint Condition 1960's Maytag Washer & Dryer for sale

I think you're going to be keeping them if that is what you want for them, nobody pays above 3-400 for really any washer/dryer set.

    Dehumidifier fan won't shut off

If it is electronically controlled, perhaps there is a relay on the board stuck in circuit closed position causing the fan to never shut off. Stuck relays often cause death of uninterruptible power supplies. You could see if a new board is available for it. If you know someone handy with...

    2018 Maytag vs. SQ

So in the regard of effective rinsing without excessive water usage the old US Bendix and Westys had their European FL cousins beat! A suds kill, a spin, a rinse, another spin, and another rinse and a final spin.

    Kitchenaid KDI-18

KDI-18 "Imperial" A good MOL model, the KDC-18 "Custom" and KDS-18 "Supurba" were BOL and TOL respectively.   Many here consider the 18 series to be the best KitchenAid dishwasher made and perhaps the best household dishwasher ever made. The 18s had "constant-rinse" which is the mini sprayer...

2004 Whirlpool Top Loader - rusty basket

A friend of mine recommended this product to me for patching porcelain, he has used it on many restorations of vintage appliances and says that it holds up well. Menard's has it.

The new speed queens: how bad are they?

Check the used market, a lot better deal than the new SQ and better performance can be had from a Whirlpool/Kenmore direct drive washer or a Maytag Dependable Care washer.

    GE Quality

GE was one of the first to cheapen their products, starting in the early 1950s they came out with electric fans that were nearly impossible to service and were outfitted with plastic gears, I own one, it is irreparable, as a gear is stripped. GE's consumer electronics were bottom of the barrel...
