Hello - first post here, glad to have found this forum. I have a 2004 Whirlpool top loader that I do not want to part with, as I can't buy a new one. It had a nasty smelling buildup in it, so I took out the basket to clean the inner tub, and found that the basket is rusted. I ordered a new basket from Sears, and it arrived damaged, with gouges and scratches. They sent me a replacement, which had more of the same type of damage, and I feel there's lack of a good protective layer on the underside. After looking at how the bottom of the new tub is coated, compared to the rusty areas on the original tub, it seems like the same areas will rust on the new tub. I'd like to repair the gouges, and give the areas that I feel are vulnerable a coat of something that will last, and I want to do it before it ever sees water. Once the basket is installed, I won't know what's going on underneath so I want to make sure it's right. Anyone have any experience with these? Thanks in advance!!!
