    IceMagic 1972 - 16mm Film

Hey John, unfortunately, I grew up in the age of what Cory Doctorow has coined, "enshittification". What hasn't been monetized has been cost-reduced, shrinkflated or SVA-adjusted. I got to see the rise, the peak, and the decline of a lot of home tech as a young adult. I have no doubt at all...

    IceMagic 1972 - 16mm Film

It is interesting...I grew up with a coppertone Amana SxS with ice dispenser b/w the freezer doors and it never had a single problem its entire life. I loved the chrome "levers" and the backlit Amana logo. When the fridge conked out in the 90's, it was replaced by a new black SxS Amana. Pretty...

    IceMagic 1972 - 16mm Film

This week's release is a fun one from Whirlpool, touting their IceMagic automatic ice maker, circa 1972. This is another one that had shifted almost entirely to red, but came out okay with some heavy color correction.

    Whirlpool / Kenmore Washer Production 1969 - 16mm

It's Wednesday, and you know what that means... This week we take a peek behind the curtain at WP's washing machine production at their original St. Joe, MI plant, circa 1969.

When did Maytag start to go bad?

Maytag Blue Cheese is still made in Newton and distributed nationally. Unfortunately, it looks like the family sold to a conglomerate in 2022. I can't comment on the taste (not a BC fan), but those that have a fancy for such things tell me it's pretty good...

1965 Frigidaire "Jet Action" Washer - 16mm Film

This week, no 20 minute documentary or assembly line footage, instead, it’s short and sweet (and most of all, entertaining). This 60 second TV spot for the new 1965 Frigidaire “Jet Action” washer line comes to us by way of Swestoyz. And my offer still stands, if anyone has a 16mm film they’d...

    "Work Simplification" at Whirlpool - 1956 - 16mm Film

This week’s film comes early… Ever wonder what office life was like behind the doors of RCA WP-Seeger Corp? Wonder no more! For a low-budget effort, these guys knew what they were doing. And those electrical visual aids are, well, something else. Presenting “Work Simplification” 1956.

RCA On The Move - 16mm Film

This week I’ve been offline, so couldn’t share the usual appliance film over in Imperial. However, I did have a new release scheduled this week that was more appropriate for Super. Fans of RCA’s 1960’s electronics will like this one. I attempted to salvage what color I could, but this print...

    The Almighty Pulsator!

Exceptional! I was wondering how you'd deal with the internal steel disc, great thinking on the material change. Now I'm getting a hankering for cream cheese mints.......

    Whirlpool's Trash Masher - 16mm Film

We've already looked at GE's trash compactor entry, so why not stop over to Whirlpool and see their Trash Masher model? You can tell the ad agency had a little fun putting this together.

The most stylish "Cadillac of washers"?

*Some* 1971-1976 GM cars weren't very good, but the Cadillacs were an exception, in fact I'd put them up against a 90's Toyota any day (just ignore those panel gaps). While the rust-proofing was middling, they seemed to have outlasted the Corollas in the rust belt. The 1968-1979 drivetrains were...

    "The Last Word" – Whirlpool's 1961 Ultimatic - 16mm Film

Here's one I know you guys have been waiting for. RCA-Whirlpool introduces The Last Word in combination washer-dryers...the 1961 Ultimatic.

    GE Presents: Quiet Trash - 1969 - 16mm Film

John, thanks for the date correction. I admit, I'm not well versed in compactors and the modern internet is severely lacking in this regard. Someone had written 1968 on the film can, but that didn't make sense. But stay tuned, I have Whirlpool's Trash Masher film scanned and at the ready. -C

    GE Presents: Quiet Trash - 1969 - 16mm Film

With all the compactor talk lately it seemed fitting to get this one on the film scan list. GE makes a pitch for their version of the trash compactor, circa 1969. Note, this film had gone completely red but I was able to pull a little color out. Still fun to watch, though.

Maytag Presents: Combination Convenience - 16mm Film

I recall Ben tracking down the trade-in info.... Ah, here we go: "Maytag offered a trade in program for the combo - and would pay out different tiers of credit towards a 502 set, depending on how long the owner had the combo, i.e. more time meant less credit towards the 502 set. I posted my...

Maytag Presents: Combination Convenience - 16mm Film

And here I was looking at that new brickwork that already required re-pointing from settling. Nice kitchen, though.

What model of Whirlpool is this?

Interesting stuff... This 1966 issue of Merchandising Week gives a pretty good take on the state of electronics in appliances at the time, including the variable speed attempts. It also mentions Mallory had developed a solid-state timer in 1960, but costs being what they were, it never left the...
