    Fishy C/L Add

Usually, it goes something like: "I no longer need the washer (or whatever it may be) because I am in Africa doing a missionary work. The (item) is at my (aunt's, sister's, mother's) house in storage. Send the money directly to me via Western Union, and I will tell her to release the item to you...

    Powder vs. liquid detergent

In the thread about the failed LG spider, someone raised a very interesting question which I myself know little to nothing about. Since I do not want to make myself guilty of threadjacking, I'm starting a new thread: What are the arguments against liquid detergent as far as how they can...

    Fishy C/L Add

Sounds like someone is having a little joke or trying to scam $25 from an unsuspecting vintage washer fan.... I've seen this kind of thing on CL before. Some A-hole will take a photo from the web and then dream up an add around it with an unbelievable price. Problem is, the item isn't theirs to...

    LG WASHER SPIDER CORROSION

fabric softener I don't think it was so much the aggressive composition of the FS as it was it's waxy coating qualities, which, over time, made it accumulate on the spider. Add to that the fact that the washer, like most modern FL'ers, uses a very small amount of water, plus I think he said he...

    LG WASHER SPIDER CORROSION

That good close-up confirms it for me: there is an extremely thick waxy build-up on that spider. Possibly fabric softener? I'm sure that contributed to the spider literally dissolving... Maybe you could share something more about your washing habits, i.e. fabric softener, oxyclean, etc. There...

    LG WASHER SPIDER CORROSION

It looks to me like there's a fairly thick coating of something on the spider, almost filling the indentations in the casting. Perhaps whatever this is helped lead the spider to it's demise?

    Pedestal or no pedestal?

The new pedestals just got here. They work just fine and I got the pair for less than half of what one would have cost had I bought the pedestals that Frigidaire said were the matching ones to my W/D. Other than the slightly upgraded drawer front of the newer pedestals, there appears to be no...

Quick Suggestions.., for a New Dishwasher...

@ whirlcool: I don't want to hijack this thread as this deviates from the original topic. I have not owned my own home, much less rental properties. There are bad landlords just like there are bad tenants but to say ALL renters are irresponsible and lazy is simply unjust.

Quick Suggestions.., for a New Dishwasher...

"understanding you won't find in the rental market&# That's a blanket statement if I ever heard one. Just because one does not own one's own home does not necessarily mean everyone who rents lacks the intelligence/initiative to refill the rinse aid compartment.

    Pedestal or no pedestal?

@ Martin: I was washing all my work clothes and white towels at once which made for a to-capacity load. For whatever reason, the machine did shake the 100-plus year old wooden structure enough to knock the neighbor's shower massage off it's hook (his bathroom is right above my laundry room). He...

    Pedestal or no pedestal?

I have recently seen the matching pedestals for my Frigidaire Affinity front loader and matching dryer on sale for a very good price at the local Lowe's. My question is: would most of you who own modern front loaders use the matching pedestal or not? I live in an old house that has wood floors...

And they've arrived in the UK (well 2 have anyway), Finally

I like how you can actually select the kind of stain you have in the menu: coffee, chocolate, sweat, etc. 3 questions: How does the "Leise Waschen" option work? Does the machine rotate more slowly in order to not make as much noise? What is the color gel compartment? Is that for dyeing fabrics...

    V ZUG Textile Refresher

Des isch z'tüür CHF 11.500,- for a laundry appliance for a private home, no matter how advanced, is outrageous. The Refresh Butler's most prominent feature is it's snob appeal. V-Zug washers are one thing. Top-notch laundry equipment has it's price. Paying over ten grand to spruce up one's...

    V ZUG Textile Refresher

Beeindrückend... That is amazing. For the person that has/wants everything. One wonders what they will cost? I don't see WP coming out with these any time soon....

Ive joined the Speen Queen party! :D

Steel outer tub... Generally, I'm more of a front loader admirer unless the machine is at least 30 years old, but the steel outer tub on the new SQ just blew me away. SQ must be the only manufacturer for the home market (outside of Miele or V-Zug) that still does this.

    US Appliance Stores

@ henene I bought the Miele in late 2001 or early 2002 from Quelle. W961 sounds very familiar. It had the buttons underneath each other and a 1200 rpm spin speed. It had a small digital display for the remaining minutes in the cycle. The honeycomb machines were available, but they were of...

    Talk to me about quality

Not sure if this is what you're asking.. but I just purchased a new portable Whirlpool DW in July. It has an all-plastic interior, which I am not a fan of, but it seems to do very well on pots & pans as well as my stainless steel bakeware, glassware and Kitchenaid mixer bowls. Not sure what a...

    US Appliance Stores

I'd be inclined to agree with you, Mark. Having owned both, in Europe and the US respectively. When I lived in Germany, I think Gorenje had a not-so-good reputation. I first owned an AEG Öko Lavamat then a Miele (can't remember what model number it was but it was the last one without the...

who thinks on modern washers of today the temp option hot wash with warm rinse shloud be offerd

@ Henene But you will hopefully agree that a heater powered by 120 V is not as effective or efficient as a heater that is powered by 230 V? Hence the longer wash times in the US with washers equipped with onboard heaters.

who thinks on modern washers of today the temp option hot wash with warm rinse shloud be offerd

Thermospin What an ingenious idea! I don't think we'll ever see that in the US though. The standard 120 V house current here would not be able to power that strong of a heater which one would need in order to accomplish the 5 minutes at 80 C.
