    Ok Guys...Opinions on ranges....

Why would you not ... … want your burners clustered onto one side? I imagine that nice big area off to one side -- with the appliance outlets -- provided a heat-protected space for a coffeemaker or toaster (or even electric griddle or waffle iron) without taking up valuable counter space.

    eating healthy

Kevin ... … eating "healthy" IS eating butter and cream. Eating UNHEALTHY is eating chemicals. A good rule of thumb: If God made it -- it's good for you. If MAN made it -- it's most likely NOT good for you.

What do you miss most about an old car...

What I miss ... … most of you have already covered. "speedometers that went AAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLL the way across the dashboard....... " YEAH BABY!!! I miss actual BUTTONS on the steering wheel for the horn. My mom's '73 LeSabre had them, and even my '88 Accord LXi had them. I can't stand...

15 items from our childhood new household will never see

OMG the Zenith ... … my great aunt (who insisted on having nothing but the BEST of everything) got my uncle to spring for a top-of-the-line Zenith console (with remote control of course) in the nearly unheard-of size of 27 inches back in 1969. Well into the '90s that sucker still had hands...

15 items from our childhood new household will never see

Remember these? For most households of more modest means, the 19-inch TV (color in the '70s and into the '80s!) was the primary television set. Usually set up on its own metal stand with wheels:

15 items from our childhood new household will never see

My dad ... ... still burns his leaves, but not in a "burn barrel"; he uses a brick "hearth" out on the edge of the property. When I remind him about the (recent) local ordinance against burning, his response is "Piss on it -- I've been burning leaves on this property for 30 years and I don't...

15 old house features we were wrong to abandon??

Wow ... "While here in Canada all home delivery of mail is scheduled to be discontinued in 2015. Replaced by community mailboxes scattered throughout neighborhoods.. That already began with any new subdivisions built in the last 10 or 15 years.." Hello 1860!

Lets talk about family room upholstered furniture?

Things to consider ... The Womb chair has no springs or support to wear out (and yet, being a single piece of fiberglass, it's unbelievably supportive and comfortable). You can go as down market or high end as you want with the upholstery, including pure wool and leather. If you have pets...

15 items from our childhood new household will never see

David ... "most residential phone lines are on multiplexors nowdays rather than being wired directly to the central office." What do you mean by this? Not sure I understand. I think what you mean is that most BUSINESS phone lines are on multiplexors. Why would residences NOT be wired...

15 items from our childhood new household will never see

I have ... ... 5 rotary dial phones in my apartment, all still in working order. And I still use my IBM Selectric III typewriter to fill out forms, address envelopes, and write personal correspondence.

15 items from our childhood new household will never see

Not everyone ... ... had their televisinos housed in "Frankenstein castle-type" wooden chests. Our television set was Danish modern:

15 old house features we were wrong to abandon??

My mom ... ... insisted on a laundry chute when they built their house in 1983. Unfortunately, she didn't get her other wish, which was a dumbwaiter.

    Tupperware

BPA risk ... "As I understand it", bisphenol-A is no risk between room and fridge/freezer temps." Not true. Plastic chemicals leach into food at all temperatures; the process is just more accelerated at higher temps. This is why BPA is being eliminated in ALL food containers, including water...

Lets talk about family room upholstered furniture?

My furniture ... ... is Stickley, which may be out of most people's price range. I'm neither portly nor have back problems (fortunately), but I think we do have the same sofa "requirements"; I hate sofas in which one sinks down to the point where the hips are below the knees, and there's so...

    Tupperware

Unfortunately ... "To tell you the truth we grew up with the softer, semi-translucent Tupperware of the 60's and that's what we prefer." I also grew up with the "vintage" Tupperware. Unfortunately, what helped to make that Tupperware so soft and pliable was BPA, a known carcinogen and...
