I just threw one of these out recently. Digistat. It had a potentiometer to fine tune the temp reading from inaccurate to waayy off!

Can a new style energy saving compressor work in older frig?

Well the original compressor died in the mid 80's. I saved it from the trash it was sitting at the curb of a house on my girlfriends street with the door off. They ruined the springs in the hinges when they took the door off, i guess it self closed originally. Otherwise, cosmetically, it's...

Can a new style energy saving compressor work in older frig?

From what i've heard it's very rare for a fridge service tech to even touch the "SEALED SYSTEM" these days, at least when it's under warranty. combo52, could you, or do you know where, i could get info on the best replacement compressor and cap tube set up for my mid 30's Westinghouse? I'm...

How about old furnace is still in use

Some were mercury and many were Bi Metal and none were as accurate as a modern digital stat. Unless you get a bad one. Then they can do things an old analog stat could never dream of. Bad things. Many of the new systems are all data... stat to furnace, furnace to condenser...... If any part of...

None of them had thermostats............ Every one i dealt with here in Houston had one of those old style metal heat only wall mounted 2 wire stats.

"It's round and when viewed from the top it has fins all around the side, I think, sort of resembling a refrigerator compressor." http://inspectapedia.com/heat/Royal_Metal_Works_Gas_Heater_1928s.jpg http://inspectapedia.com/heat/Royal_Metal_Works_Gas_Heater_1929s.jpg

How about old furnace is still in use

"gas going thru valve generates current" (Technical It works on a millivolt thermostat "In other words gas going thru the valve generates enough current to operate the thermostat with no external power source......" Technically no, The pilot flame keeps a millivolt generator hot (like a...

Can a new style energy saving compressor work in older frig?

modern fridge's efficiency I'd bet 80% of a modern fridge's efficiency is due to modern insulation and evaporator ~ condenser coil design. I'd be shocked if the compressor itself accounted for more than 20% of the total improvement.

Old Washing Machines Are Less Efficient and Consume More Energy

Yes, or the Energy and other resources wasted Also the fuel costs in transporting those beasts with their cement balancing weights. More fuel used to ship new, then haul off to the junkyard, not to mention the sprained backs of the fools trying to install and position those things.

Old Washing Machines Are Less Efficient and Consume More Energy

Anyone factored in the billions of dollars wasted ????????? I wonder if anyone has ever factored in the billions of dollars wasted by consumers buying those thousand dollar front loaders from the 2000 - 2010 era that lasted 5 or 6 years with many breakdowns in between only to junked in year 7...

Plea for advice on GE Wall Hung Refrigerator

That close up of the compressor looks kind of oily. Where there is oil there is usually a freon leak and if a hermetically sealed system EVER needs freon it's leaking. The tech. that charged it didn't take a quick sniff with a leak detector and that sucks. Should be easy to find since since 99%...

Thoughts on the Goodman GSX13 Air Conditioner

27 ft that's fine. Yea, check that orifice you may have mistaken a one for a seven though you'll never know for sure until you're holding the orifice in your hand. Hopefully the installer installed the 51 that came with the condenser in the coil at the time. Maybe you could ask him. If the...

Thoughts on the Goodman GSX13 Air Conditioner

The 1.5 ton 410a Goodman condenser is shipped with a .51 orifice. That WILL make a difference. If the set up has a 13 ft lineset and an oversized orifice that will result in high suction pressures with the factory charge of refrigerant. Even if he removed some freon to compensate for that short...

Thoughts on the Goodman GSX13 Air Conditioner

It's either undercharged or it has too much airflow. I think that .57 orifice is TOO BIG for 1.5 tons and causing it to run a high suction pressure. It's either that or it's undercharged and/or it has too much airflow. If the air isn't coming out of the vents like a jet then i'd bet on that...

Maytag gas range needs clock motor

Maytag range clock I have found that if you remove the assembly and clean and oil the clock motor and/or movement 95% of the time they'll come back to life and run for years. It's quite often the only problem is caked up old lubricants. I've done it many times with range clock,s oven...
