    Creda Compact dryer in Australia?

How those memories flood back ... ... but not in a bad way. Chris: I remember the silver two-dial model. Family friends had that in the early 70s. Mine was the later model with the brown fascia. Dial on the right, orange pilot light and power button on the left of the door handle. Well, door...

Anyway to change time settings on the forum?

Have I missed the point? If I'm interested, I look at the timestamp of the first entry in a long thread to see how old the thread is. Otherwise, each entry follows its chronological predecessor. Likewise, the thread with the most recent update is at the top of the forum list. What difference...

    Creda Compact dryer in Australia?

Don't bag all the Simpsons ... I bought a German made Simpson in 1979/1980 and it was still running in 2000. I still maintain it was the best machine ever. It stacked easily and held heaps. It washed very well, although it was a bit noisy. (Nothing installing some rubber-backed carpet between...

    Creda Compact dryer in Australia?

Square-Round Knobs Chris, Funny you should mention that ... it was going through my head on the way home that the control knob was an "interesting" shape, being squared at one end and round at the other. I never got to see inside the machine though. Robert, I have no idea where they were...

    Creda Compact dryer in Australia?

It's a New World, alright You're on the money, Chris. My mum's first dryer was a grey New World, circa 1965/67. We had a drying cabinet before then. And a friend's family had the dishwasher you described too, around 1976, although I don't know how old it was at the time. Nick

FYI to board members who fly to/from North America: baggage allowances have changed!

Perhaps the US is the exception, not the rule ... I travelled to the US earlier this year and found it generous that I was allowed two pieces of checked luggage. Looking further into it, it's the exception on the Qantas network, probably to align with what you've all enjoyed for so long...

    Westinghouse 6 cycle dishwasher #1

Oh, the memories ... I had an Aunt in Brisbane who had one of these in the late 60's/early 70's. I then got one at a school jumble sale in 1978 and restored it (well, cleaned it up and had the motor rewound; never got the heater working though). It then became my first dishwasher when I left...

    Favourite Appliance Jingle?

Ajax and Pea-Beu Hi Steve, You're on a roll! I remember those, along with most of the other Aussie ones, too. Another one came to mind, although it's not for applicances. Anyone remember the brand? Put on your best fake Scots accent and say: "Y'canna hanna manna granna spanna" Sidchrome...

    Favourite Appliance Jingle?

Mr Sheen ... Hi Steve, My memory of Mr Sheen was in a slightly different order ... Clean, wax and polish as you dust with Mr. Sheen. I then tried googling it and found this ... most of the conversation between Mrs Sparkle and Mr Sheen ... and it was on a forum on our ABC no less ... =====...

    "What has Dyson invented now?"

Seems we're the guinea pigs ... as we're a tiny market and they can iron out the bugs before the northern summer http://www.smh.com.au/executive-style/luxury/dyson-launches-bladeless-fan-20091014-gwxx.html

It's mine.....the matching dryer to my 1958 Simpson Fluid Drive washer.

You learn something every day ... I didn't realise Simpson had ever made full-sized dryers like that, and certainly not so long ago. I'm only used to the smaller (I think our US friends would call them "tiny") models from the late 60's/early 70's onwards. Great that you now have a matched...

    Updates of the Laundry Studio

What about the one next to the AEG? What brand is the Italian machine next to the AEG? It looks very much like machines branded as Bendix here in Australia in the early 1990's.

    Dynasty Dishwasher ...

While in San Francisco we also visited the Filoli House. Many of the rooms in this mansion were used as settings for the series "Dynasty" back in the early 80's. What I doubt they ever showed on TV was the actual kitchen in the home. And in particular, the GE extra-wide (by Aussie standards)...
