Anyway to change time settings on the forum?

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Have I missed the point?

If I'm interested, I look at the timestamp of the first entry in a long thread to see how old the thread is. Otherwise, each entry follows its chronological predecessor. Likewise, the thread with the most recent update is at the top of the forum list. What difference does the timestamp/time zone inforamtion really make?

Think about what features would be totally cool to have.

Post editing, search ALL (past) posts from individual members, sticky posts, emoticon options...

What I've really been thinking about lately is setting up a specific post for known part stores that carry vintage parts. A lot of older parts stores theses days are throwing away their old stock to make room for the new (garbage) parts. Members here can post the store, phone#, email (if applicable), and what parts they stock (washers, dryers, dishwashers), as well as the brand(s). This will GREATLY help ALL members here locate their hard to find, obsolete parts in a quicker and easier fashion. Also, there won't be the constants posts inquiring where to purchase certain parts. I'm sure there's some great old partstores still around with some hard to find vintage parts that most members here aren't even aware of. Gotta acquire those goodies before they're gone forever!!

Should I wish to find the last posting

containing a key word, I hit ctrl+F, put the keyword into the box and hit the search direction to yield the latest entry.
No hu-hu, instant last posting from me or whomever or the last posting on whatever topic I desire.
The same search in the other direction yields the first posting, and all subsequent.

This function has been available since the 20th century, and is flexible. Chrome, Firefox, IE and Safari support it.

Given that I use several computers during a typical day and do not log in on all of them, it serves me well. Without logging in or using cookies, I don't see how Robert could code a page to 'know' who, what, when and where on Terra a poster had last commented,.

Guys sometimes change is good, the timezone feature is clearly a good idea as Unimatic1140 has said it is.

He has also asked for members to suggest new features the site could have.

There are a lot of other forums that are free to join therefore dont make any profit.

Unimatic1140, the feature I was referring to where it will display if there is a new post, rather than you having to go to the very last one even though there may be posts before you have not read... can be seen working here:

You really have to be registered to see how it works, but at the start of each title of the posts listed is a little green arrow pointing downwards.

You click this and it will take you to the first unread post in that thread that you havent read, it remembers somehow what you last read.

Other features I could suggest are perhaps being able to quote on a reply, so when replying to someone in particular you can quote the message your replying to so that its easier to follow.

I must say being 26yrs old this and Vac forums are the first forums I have seen that dont operate on the vbulletin format.

Its a very good forum that we have here and I like the layout etc but a few extra features to make it easier on people of my age group would be an advantage.

We all have different ways of doing things and its about appreciating and seeing the differences in each other rather than getting on the defensive when someone suggests a new idea.

These sort of features all make for a user friendly forum.

Also maybe a way of editing posts that you have done, this again can be seen in v bulletin format.

For example I have now had to create a 2nd post when really it should be part of the post before.

Again another little feature that would prove beneficial, especially if you have forgotten to add something in.

Perhaps maybe a way of subscribing to topics so that when there is a new reply you get an email saying you have a new reply with a hyper link to it.

To be honest, things are fine as they are. I know the quirks and tricks to get where I want to go here. The site has a personality and you just adjust to it. The only item I'd really like is an edit option, but we've functioned here for a long time with out it.
