I haven't tried EcoZone either, yet. I'm not a fan of the Ecover liquids. I really don't like the smell. I can't fault their fabric softener though. I've recently been experimenting with making my own washing powder, which has been interesting. Still need to do some more testing though.

The norm in the UK for a long time was to have washing machines in the kitchen, which is how I grew up. Many UK homes pre-date washing machines, so were never designed to accomodate such appliances. The kitchen was often the only place to put it, as that's where the plumbing was. And hence...

So far, I've found it in 2 shop-brand softeners here in the UK. Tesco's own and Asda's specific "childrens" softener, which is supposed to be gentle and safe for kids.

That's a really good point, Stan. It is certainly impressive what you can get clean with just soap and hot water.

I don't see the point of this stuff. Bio and non-bio washing powders contain oxy bleach anyway which is, in itself, an antibacterial agent. Hot washing at 60 degrees and above is also good for killing off nastiness. So why bother forking out for another product? Just use the correct detergent...
