    Sears Fall/Winter 1940 Catalog

My aunt's house built in the early 50's had oil heat till we swapped out the furnace in the early 70's.  It was a nasty thing, everything in the house had a yellow coating from the oil. The house was in the city and there was gas available at some point so I have no idea why oil was used.

    Vintage Jenn-Air Range

My brother has had a couple of these over the decades.  He said the older one, like in the picture,  was a bit more powerful.  He had every accessory made for the original but many did not work with the newer model. The area on the left also contained the grease trap for the grill unit that...

15 things you can do with your dryer

Got to admit I wasn't aware of some of them.  I do do a few, not sure I buy some, but worth a look. https://www.familyhandyman.com/list/dryer-hacks/

    Throwing away food

My milk keeps well past it's date but I credit  my fridge for that.  My WP has a cold air vent that feeds chilled air into the door above the bin I keep my milk in.

    Throwing away food

It's BEST if used by, does not mean it's bad.  I have tons of stuff that is past it's best by date, no qualms about using it.  Best by is a marketing scam to get people to toss perfectly good food and buy more.

    bulk fabrixc softener

Wow, you must do a lot of laundry, for me a mid sized bottle of Downy might last 2 years.  5 gallons would out live me.....

    Weird KA mixer issue

Well finally was able to remove the  bowl last night.  Tried oil, no luck, tried putting it on the floor straddling it, no luck.  Finally put it in the sink and submerged the base in very hot water after a few minutes -success!    Been using this KA for 30+ years never had this much of an...

    Weird KA mixer issue

I've tried giving it a jerk, no luck.  Been making dough in this KA for 30+ years the bowl stuck many times but never like this.   Will give the WD idea a try when I hunt down where I stashed it.

    Weird KA mixer issue

Last night I was trying a new cinnamon roll  recipe that incorporates tangzhong and requires a long kneading time.  It a fairly tight dough and I should have used my Nutramill dough setup but used the KA instead.  Anyway after 2 long kneading sessions the bowl is firmly twisted into the base and...

smartphones pics and videos vs poloroid camera

These are not the "real" Kodak and Poloroid, those companies ceased to exist some time ago.  Just like RCA, Radio Shack and many other companies some junk company bough the name hoping to  suck customers in with a legacy name. I read at the latest CES there were  3 or 4 booths claiming the Kodak...

MS Is Killing Off Mail & Calendar - It's Redesigned Outlook Or Nothing

I'm a big fan of Thunderbird. Never  used MS versions so can't offer comparisons.

Transitioning from plastic to glass food storage containers

My go to for storage are Corningware grab its.  Been using them for close to 40 years.  They come in 2 versions - original which are heat proof corningware and a  later version which are a different material which can't be used on the stove top. Mine have glass lids, also have plastic too but...

    Gillette MACH3 Blades

Used an electric razor for years, honestly don't recall switching but been using a Gillette power proglide for well over a decade.  Tried using other razors but something about the vibration gives me a better shave.  I only shave 2 or 3 times a week, more if I'm going somewhere other than the...

Do you use heated dry on your dishwasher?

I have not used heated dry in decades.  I do keep my water HOT - 150 degree range - and they basically flash dry.  With cold/flu season I've been using Sani cycle on my KA.   A  lot depends on the machine, I often turn it on when I go to bed and stuff is still warm when I get up many hours...

Do you use a Rinse Aid?

Filling rinse aid My KA has  a little window indicator so I know when to refill. When I do I partially close the door, about 45 degrees, and open the spout on the bottle and gently squeeze to  fill the dispenser.Much easier and I get more product in the tank than with the door flat.

    Switching back to using powder

I'm planning on picking up some Tide powder if I every get out Target way. Been using Persil liquid for about a year time to change it up.

Can Haier really be so cheap?

I'm in the middle on this one.  Give me a logical dash,, no matter if it's a screen. My Volt has a touch screen but it's pretty logically laid out.  However, a cousin leased a Tesla and to me there was no logic to the setup.  Plus you had to look right to the center screen for anything including...

    Questions on two KitchenAid dishwashers

I rarely use the 3rd rack in my KA.  I removed it for awhile but put it back in as I needed it from time to time.  I just adjusted my loading to accommodate the 3rd rack.

Can Haier really be so cheap?

Most people function on their phones at this point and shove instructions in a drawer or misplace them.  Why waste paper and ink?  If you want it on paper print it yourself.

What music do you do your cooking to?

I have a mix of my Pandora stations playing on my main computer.  I feed that through the whole house, I put a ceiling mounted recessed speaker in the kitchen. I change the mix seasonally if not sooner. Mostly a mix of vocals and instrumentals, modern takes on classics - I hate listening to...
