    Ariel Laundry Detergent

One of my favorite detergents--------- It has been my summertime favorite for many years. I enjoy the fresh fragrance and it really perks-up line-dried laundry. I prefer the phosphated version, which I have stock-piled along with Viva and Foca as I live in a hard-water area. While Roma makes a...

Where to find a Frigidaire Jet Cone washer

You need to find out where the local appliance stores are taking their hauled-off machines for disposal and keep a steady eye out. From a distance pastel colors are earlier machines, gold, green and copper tones later ones. ESTATE sales are still a good way to unearth them, although sometimes...

    Philco washer in NC

Joe------ Don't get too wound-up. It might have been a POS anyway. The flapper might be down to a nub, or they would have shown the interior.

    GE Combination Washer Dryer

Great cleaning ability. Poor water extraction causes lengthy drying cycle unless you have a machine with a fast spin nearby. I find they do great with light weight clothing. It's the heavy/bulky fabrics that can be an issue, unless you have a Rapidry Frigidaire handy.

    In Sink Erator Clasic

Many years ago, I bought one of those noisy GE beasts from the sixties off of E-Bay, that would grind gravel and steel. It was NOS and even the box was immaculate. I think it was about $50.00. All the original paperwork was there, etc. BUT, when I installed it, it only turned for a few seconds...

The Very First General Electric Automatic Washer - Full Cycle Video

Thanks, I remember this one. It really was an impressive machine. Like so many other designs over the years, they do away with the really good ones for all kinds of reasons. I'm sure Liability forced the manufacturers into tub-brakes. Same for high-speed water extraction. And the worst of the...

    TOL vintage dishwasher?

You had best search for some parts--------- because you will need them! And a repair manual so you can work on it when it needs repair, because, the people who used to work on them are in a nursing home or cemetery. Today's appliance repair people are clueless. Anyway, I agree, I would look...

    Welcoming A Westy!

Great find! Those two workhorses look to be in pretty good shape. The "Big W" Westy is very cool. If my memory serves me correctly the water pump is right over the motor, so be sure to make sure the hoses/pump is not leaking. I always make sure they are "seaworthy" before I fire them up. A few...

From the West Coast to the Midwest - a Bendix restoration

Beautiful restoration------- When you said this was your next serious project I knew you were focused in on it! These machines used to be quite popular back in the day, and like throwing a light-switch, began to disappear quickly in the 1960's. I haven't seen one in operation in probably five...

    American Life in 1948

Reply #10 But, the odds are the Rolls-Royce can still be driven!

    Maytag Pet-Pro Washing Machine

Nothing beats an old G.E. Filter-Flo-------- as anyone with large or furry dogs can attest to. The old Whirlpool "Tragic Mix" filter also did a good job until clogged. Most other filters were just a sales gimmick. I'm not thinking many new machines have a real filter at all. The assumption is...

    Revolutionary Kenmore The Turbo-Matic

"Compact" ???!!!! Those things are very large and tall. Reminds me of back in the fifties when just about any two-door car advertised was a "sports" car!

New to Me Whirpool Imperial from 1983

A 1969 MOL Gas Whirlpool------ is the best dryer I have ever owned. I bought it as part of a set back around 2007 (washer still works fine) and John Lefever graciously gifted me a window door. It still works just fine and until recently had been a daily driver for over 15 years. Could use new...

    Washer in Borateem POD ad

Reliability-------- Interesting question. All I know is the people who had them were loathe to get rid of them and usually kept them until the flapper was worn to a stub. Like most machines of any kind, once the company stops manufacturing them altogether, they usually stop making the parts as...

    Are laundry sanitizers worth it?

Unless your washer is an open sewer-------- like half of America, then a standard wash cycle and a round in a dryer should be enough. Chlorine bleach was great back in the day when everyone used cloth diapers and line-dried everything. The sun killed the chlorine and the cooties in one fell...

    Washer in Borateem POD ad

Barry---- Those old flappers did clean well. The early solid-tub machines were my preference. They did not extract water very well, like a Kelvy, or Whirly/Kenmore. AND they were prone to sudz-lock as many other machines did back in the day of high-sudsing detergents. It was not unusual to...

Whatever happened to washing machine lint filters?

I always though self-cleaning filters were the best as I don't like fooling around with them. Having to use a fork to pick the lint out of an old Whirly "Tragic-Mix" was a gross annoyance. No wonder Kenmore had them install those wonderful self-cleaning glass bead filtration systems. I...

Why Do All Speed Queens Spray Rinse While Full of Water?

I have a ten year old SQ that doesn't start spraying until the water is out. Very much like an old Maytag. The old solid tub Kelvy's used to start a hot water spray the moment the first spin started that lasted well up to the tub reaching the top of the spin. One would think that would have...

    Help please with A806

For old Maytag's I just use two regular rubber hoses and plastic adapter to join them together on the straight ends. Works just like the original factory hose and has all the curves in the right places.
