    Buy your water heaters now!

I could not agree more Norgeway. Make everything 10 times more complicated so that it breaks more often and gets replaced repeatedly just to save a few cents a month on utilities.

    Maytag performa washer

Is it a Herrin built machine ? Performas from those years could be Newton built. I sold hundreds of them. I ask this because the original poster said that the "belts" looked good.

Speed Queen AWN542 Water Supply Hose Angled or Straight?

I agree that the majority of hose failures that I see are at the fittings but I see a lot at various points along the length. Sometimes it's not known where it failed because the entire outer jacket is swollen with water. Have never seen a SS jacket hose have a major failure. I have had them...

Another convert to the Alliance Laundry Camp

The vended (coin) model will see a complete change in January. I imagine the home model will follow at the same time or shortly after. It's a complete redesign. Larger capacity - I forget the number but just a little over 3 cu ft. They say this will bring it to a"real" 20# capacity. The current...

Annoying squeak stopped on SQ AWN series

I was on a call to change a pump on a 5 yr old SQ a few days ago that had noisy spin bearings. I don't believe that these machines are as great as everybody makes them sound. Unfortunately they are the only one left that works like the old machines. I have a laundromat customer that has 24...

First digital timers on GE ranges?

Could be a replacement clock GE sells a digital clock that replaces many of the old analog ones.

Speed Queen Front Load Washers and Dryers

50 years at 10 loads a week That's a 25,000 load life cycle. That is the life cycle of a commercial hard mount washer. I was told by the Alliance rep that the Horizon FL has a 10K life cycle like the TL. Note that I say "told" I have not seen this in writing. The national avg laundromat...

New Maytag Traditional Belt Drive Washing Machine

I think that Whirlpool could address the weak spots in the VMW machines and they would be pretty good. But so far they are not holding up very well.

    Flood safe hoses

I have seen many rubber fill hoses rupture in the middle. But I will agree it is more often near the end joint. Sometimes it's not obvious where it breaks because the entire outer rubber casing is swelling full of water. I think the braided hose should prevent this. The problem I have with them...

SQ and others in washer repair survey

Should read "between the basket and outer tub". Not sure what Baskerville is or where it came from.

SQ and others in washer repair survey

I had high hopes when the VMW washers first came out... But I have also seen many many failures for a product that is at most 4 years old. I agree that some of the problems are a simple fix. Small clothing gets stuck between the Baskerville and outer tub, shift actuators, capacitors, plastic...

Whirlpool Corporation Introduces New Hybrid Heat Pump Dryer Technology, HybridCare™

Just my opinion... but I don't have much confidence in anything that Whirlpool does these days. In the past I thought Whirlpool was the overall best brand that you could buy. Parts to repair where very reasonable too. Not anymore in my experience.

    Catalyst down again

The factory (Whirlpool) parts have the longer tab on the other side. Is it absolutely critical ? I think it would make a difference. I have been lining up the long tab with the brake release cam for so long I can't even remember why. I probably had some bad experience that caused me to start...

    Catalyst down again

The longer tab on the clutch band should be inserted inside the forked finger on the brake release cam driver. You don't want the tab swinging around and slamming into the plastic cam driver. It won't last long that way.

    Maytag A712

A613 The model pictured in the above link is a A613. It was a A612 with the 5 temperature options like the A712 but only had 2 speed options.

Article from Pop Mechanics on fluid drive

Waisting power ? I don't think it is very reasonable to say that SQ fluid drive or MT slipping belts are (and should not be) used today because they waste power. I would guess cost to be the big factor against fluid drive. Speed Queen today uses a slipping belt. And even if the clutch system...

Wanted: Maytag Neptune Motor Control Board

The machine control board that is pictured in reply #1 is not a good board. You can see the famous R11 is burnt out. The door won't lock so the machine will not spin. Someone is trying to sell a bad board for $69.

    Speed Queen dryer arrived

Mechanical Timer ? John / Combo52, I think why the Speed Queen timer is being referred to as "mechanical" is because they are the only company to use the ratcheting (one direction) more washer like type of timer. While every other manufacturer has used the smoother (turns clockwise and...

    Thrift store finds

It is not a model down from the 712 I think it would be model A710. The top of the line was the A810. This was the series before the 12 models. The 10 series had the ivory buttons and timer knob and are from about 1980 to late 1984. The 12 series switched to the brown buttons .

    WHP Catalyst wonky recirc valve

Been a number of years since I saw this but I remember something was strange about it. There may be a minimal amount of current allowed through the circuit even when the control board is not energizing a certain component. I think it was enough that the bad valve (either a weak return spring...
