When did GE start putting electronic clocks and timers on ranges? Right now there is an older looking GE electric range on ebay with an electronic timer. We had a GE range we bought from 1992 that still had the three analog dials and it was a fairly high end model at the time, self cleaning and a black glass door. This one on ebay looks like its from the 70s or 80s. My parents have a 85 Hotpoint that too is fairly high end - self cleaning and black glass and it too has the three analog dials, as do all the models shown in the manual.

Also when did GE start making glass top ranges? I don't recall any prior to the mid 90s at least.

I thought that the first GE smooth top ranges were introduced in the late-'70's/early '80's... That's when Corning became Frigidaire and other makes brought out theirs...

And the first digital control models would have come out around that time, too...

Dave:

Smooth-top ranges were actually a bit earlier than that. The Lady Kenmore 30-inch smmoth-top my mom had (later passed on to me) was a '74 model, and it wasn't the first year for them at Sears. And Sears was more a market follower than a leader.
