GE Dryer died..... less than 3 years old!!!

So you're ready to dump this dryer because it needs a $45 timer? Lol, you guys crack me up on here sometimes. GE dryers are very easy to work on. 2 screws and the top comes off, 2 more screws and you can remove the front. Raise the drum slightly and slip the belt off the idler pulley, and you...

Help needed 1999 (not quite vintage) Amana washer question

Hmmmm Did you notice my earlier post about my Amana frying the motor after the seal went out?? Anyway, trying to look at the model number on your GE, and if it is a GTWP2000, or close to that, it does have a very easily adjustable water pressure switch on it. More water in the tub can do...

    my new ge refrigerator

Mr Clean Mr Clean..... I find the Mr. Clean (or similar generic store brand)sponges do an amazing job of cleaning with out scratching. I don't know how they work, but they work very well.

Help needed 1999 (not quite vintage) Amana washer question

Surprised.... I'm surprised you got that many years out of it. My 2000 Amana started roaring at 5 years, but then I relegated it to the downstairs laundry. Then one night the kids came out saying the machine was smoking out the top. Out to the curb. It wasn't until we moved it out, I could see...

vintage GE fridge, should I get it?

Ice trays... I noticed you have plastic ice trays. If you end up having problems with slow ice, you might want to go on Ebay and get some vintage metal ones. Since you'll no longer have fan forced cooling in the freezer, plastic trays will take longer to freeze. I have a 6 cuft fridge at work...

Sad new about my 6 month old ge HE top load

Samsung? This GE machine looks very similar to a Samsung model that's out there. I wonder if this model was made by them for GE. I know GE has let Samsung make a few of their French Door refrigerators as well. Does it say "Made in Korea" on the model sticker...

    G.E. washer drum

tub nut... I would strongly suggest you remove the agitator and make sure you can loosen the tub nut, before you go any further. On a machine as old as yours, it could be corroded beyond easy removal. I believe it is reverse thread as well, meaning you'll have to try and turn it clockwise to...

    G.E. washer drum

Balance ring changed... Somewhere along the line GE changed the balance ring to a taller, more streamlined look, like the one in the picture. I believe the steel part of the tub has remained the same, but depending on which balance ring you have, you'd have to switch them, assuming you can get...

    G.E. washer drum

There are several Youtube videos on how to remove the nut and tub, and you will see why this special spanner wrench is needed. This nut tends to get corroded, and just a regular open end or adjustable wrench will most likely just round it off. The spanner wrench goes all the way around the nut...

    G.E. washer drum

best bet Go onto the GE parts website to find part numbers to cross reference by. The stainless tubs are much to expensive to buy new. Your best bet would be to salvage one from a cheap Craigslist posting, or find one at a second hand appliance store that has taken in a machine they have...

    Air Conditioner Mystery

Water from the inside evaporator coil is routed out to a tray underneath the condenser coil. The fan has a slinger ring on it to sling the water up onto the coil to not only help evaporate the water, but also increase efficiency of the unit by cooling the coil with the water. It appears salt in...

    GE Dishwasher - GDF520PGDWW

Height adjustment... Nice looking dishwasher. But you need to tell your installers to come back and raise it up. The gap between the top of that dishwasher and the counter top is way to large. There shouldn't be more than about 1/2" gap between the two. I don't even see how they could anchor...

    New fridge

Cabinet depth.... YES...how did you get that so far back into the cabinet area? I wish I had the wall behind mine notched when the house was being built, so I could have had a cabinet depth look' without buying the over priced, undersized models that are that way/

    Which New Refrigerator?

No French door or front load washers for me... To me, I think the French door is just a fad. If not, why not just get a SINGLE door top fridge/bottom freezer? Those have been around since my parents had a 1963 Norge. Those offer much easier access, but aren't the "trendy" thing of the moment. I...

    My 2011 Whirlpool refrigerator

I seriously doubt a refrigerator this new has a defrost timer. Most all fucntions are controled by the main control board, that most likely activates a relay on the board to turn on the defrost heater. To quote a link text " GE electronic refrigerators have a main board. This main board controls...

    Miele Dryer Bulb

Is that possible?? I suppose anything can happen, but I've never had a dryer or refrigerator bulb burn out on me, considering the short duration of operation. I think the 30 year old GE SXS that I passed on to my mother in law still has the original bulbs in it. Well, with your new one and...

    Mid 1990's Amana Washing Machine

Horrible...all I can say My "commercial quality" year 2000 Amana's were the biggest POS I have EVER owned. The motor and tub bearing went out at 6 years. Dryer made a "thump-thump.....thump-thump" noise until the rollers warmed up,as the drum seam made that noise as it rolled over them.

    Refrigerators, the Next Fad!

This reminds me of the short lived fad when one manufacturer put a flat screen TV in the door of a SXS. I can just hear the dinner conversation..." OK kids, dinner is over. Let's all pull up a chair and gather around the refrigerator to watch TV tonight". Does anyone besides me remember seeing...

    "Insourcing" Trend at GE

Found the article GE has been using Panasonic compressors for quite awhile in their full size refrigerators. Smaller compact ones use Samsung. They haven't used their own square lunch box sized compressor since the early 80's, as far as I know...
