1983 BD Kenmore 70 in Southern NJ $50

We had the model 1981 model 80 version of this washer. Pretty much just added infinite water levels to the mix. Automatic selects the wash temp for the given selections or you override with the others. Ex.cotton white was a hot wash. These machines didn't have tempered warm and cold, warm was a...

    Brightening vintage linens

Machine drying can cause premature wear, shrinkage and can permanently set stains not removed the first time.

    Brightening vintage linens

It first and most importantly depends on the fragility of the piecework. If very delicate, conservators use Orvus paste and minimal agitation and water temp. Most vintage piecework can tolerate more aggressive treatment. Many people have had good luck with using Biz. I prefer to use Shaklee...

Best USA Detergent for HI-TEMP Washing

Wisk HE powdered tabs are unfortunately NLA, for about eight or ten years. IIRC. Replaced recently with liqutabs. I must agree with Launderess, the best powders available to the US market are the 2 imported Henkel Persil Universal ones. Which while expensive, are readily available. I have had...

Best USA Detergent for HI-TEMP Washing

I concur with the opinions that the Persil Universal powder formulas are the best at high temps. My Bosch tops out at 155 on sanitary or 152 on Temp boost cottons and I can still have oversudsing issues with detergents, even with temps this low. I've found that Shaklee, Tide with bleach HE and...

Cleaning question: How do you remove a rancid oil smell?

I'm a massage therapist. The oil smell can be difficult to remove. Try using a liberal amount of ammonia in the wash water, about a cup. It's been a staple in my families laundry room for decades. That usually does the trick. It's best to use the hottest water possible. I wash my sheets in 150...

    1959 Berinia 530 sewing machine ??

Berninas of that era are still collectible and very desirable. They probably have the best stitch quality out there. IMHO, they may even rival that of the Singer Featherweight. Yours looks in great shape too.

Best dishwasher detergent/ additives for hard water?

I've been using Somat powder in my Miele lately. It's expensive, $20 for a 60 load bag, but worth it. You can order it from productswithstyle.com and get free shipping. Our water isn't quite as hard as yours in Jackson, but 30% PO4 in the formula works a treat!

    Reliable Velocity Iron

The v100 is a hefty iron, reminiscent of the old ge's of the sixties and seventies. Which I like, I use a lot of cotton and linen fabrics, the weight helps do some of the work. The large amount of steam does the rest. These are popular irons with sewers and quilters, you may find one at a...

    Reliable Velocity Iron

Ive had a Reliable iron for about a year now. It's the Digital Velocity v100. The iron features a steam generator, so you can use steam at the silk setting and not get any leaking. This iron produces a hefty amount of steam, even on the lower settings. I sew as my main hobby, and have been...

    Miele Professional OctoPLUS Models

My price list from fall of last year doesn't list the above model, the closest is the PW6101. Its a 10 KG machine with a 1200 RPM spin speed. It comes in around $14K. Larger machines go to upwards of $27K.

    GE Mobile Maid

That's the dishwasher I grew up with. BOL for sure, though cleaned very well with Electrasol. Add about 10 years to the above estimate. I remember buying ours on sale at J L Hudson when they sold appliances.

    Siemens Ultrasense WFXD8400UC

I believe you have to purchase the whole door. One of the plastic welds on the door lens of my Bosch washer of your vintage, broke and was told and verified by the schematic on Bosch's website that its the whole thing for a couple hundred I think. HTH, Todd

Which Vacum is best out of these??

I have that same Cirrus vac. Bought it a couple months ago. It's a good cleaner, almost as good as my Miele. Much better than the Sharp. Bags are quite cheap too.

Best cat litter/ what do you use?

I've used "worlds best" litter for about 10 years. It's a corn based litter, not clay. It clumps well enough to use in a littermaid and has decent odor control. It also doesn't have the alleged health risks associated with clay clumping litters.

Do folks in Europe use the same detergent in top loaders (e.g. twin tub) as for front loader?

Persil- Sodium PERborate and Sodium SILicate.

Do folks in Europe use the same detergent in top loaders (e.g. twin tub) as for front loader?

@hoovermatic It's amazing the things that stay with us through our lives. I can still smell the fragrance of both powders. Nothing has compared to that smell on wash day nor in performance either. I still use them as the gold standard after all of these years. I remember when Ariel was a higher...
